Registered six months ago. Only ever made a single game entry. This is their first comment, and it's barely a short sentence and a link relating to epic games. Steam profile shows they follow a trading group, and their thumbnail is a stereotypical 'cute girl' posing thing.

If not for the fact they have some games attached to the steam account, I might have guessed it's a bot account that got seeded ahead of time.

Creating threads doesn't count as comments, I think. So that's why they've made multiple posts, according to others.

hey, there is a rule, the second one in guidelines/general, but yeap i could be making stuff and is a main, is just i dont understand the purpose, in reddit you farm karma or in twitter you get followers, etc... for business stuff, but just sharing news without participating in any other things of this site and with the steam account that doesnt have too much activity just made me think

it looks weird indeed, sg is a very small site to advertise a store like epic. 🤷

For Honor was free on Steam last year. We all got it already. The Epic Failure Store is late.

Actually Ubisoft gave it free first...Steam was late and Epic...was epic late

Ok, I'll give you that. And I'll trust UPlay and Origin FAR more than I'll EVER trust the Epic Failure Store.

well Alan wake is great, but most people own it already
in regards to For Honor its completly bulshit that they are still selling the starter edition. The base game includes 3 heroes and should be permanently free

It's been free on steam and on uplay, by now everyone should have it but I also can't see why they just don't make the base game completely free forever

Well, to restrict cheaters or hackers

I don't know of many popular competitive games that actually gain much from going F2P.

They lose out on initial profits, they increase the amount of cheaters and they have wildly fluctuating playercounts, which makes any financial decisions tough for them to decide on since the game can look great one month and nearly dying the next month.

CS:GO has suffered a lot thanks to that, since many long-time players quit after Valve couldn't plug the hole for cheaters fast enough since Prime's as effective for cheating as a wet fart is for biological warfare. Instead of spending $15 per VAC ban, they now spend $1 max.

I haven't really noticed an increased amount of cheaters since the F2P move but I guess most of them get banned before they actually reach higher ranks?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Often enough, yeah. The most blatant cheaters are the most annoying ones and yet they also get banned the quickest, so even if they reach LEM or something like that, then they'll just get banned the next day since Overwatch has received like 40 reports out of 50 players.

If anticheat could be better, then I'd be down for the idea as well, but that's just an impossibility. You can't be on a perfect defensive if you have to cover 100% of the area with a .5% proficiency. They'll always just pick a new hole and rush it and by the time Valve plugs it up, a new one gets breached.

It's as you say, I think that VAC is actually pretty impressive all things considered despite all the crap it often gets. They do their best to plug the breaches. Now if there only was a way to keep the banned players from just starting over again on another account.

Now if there only was a way to keep the banned players from just starting over again on another account.

Well, Prime was supposed to do that by making you have to identify yourself. But obviously an actual human identification would never fly, so they went more impersonal with the phone numbers. But now we've reached a bigger shortcoming, which is the fact that you can get a new phone number in any grocery store for the price of a large pack of gum. So now Valve lost out on that profit while making the barrier for cheating cheaper.

Plus, we just can't ignore this: "All users who already own CS:GO but have not opted into Prime Status have automatically been upgraded to Prime Status. Even if you do not have a phone number on your account, you now have Prime Status.". So Prime's been made into a premium F2P model exclusive club where you basically pay to see fewer cheaters.
Prime's just a system that's good in concept, but it's devolved into a pseudo-P2W tactic.

Hey, that's what the discussions are for! Not to mention, you do have a really good point. The starter edition's a total cop-out to actually going F2P. Now players will just get an inferior product, while still paying. They should pick a side, though obviously I have picked mine.

But For Honor went temporarily free, which is a great way of doing F2P. If cheaters get banned, they won't be able to just get the game free again. So the legit players still have a chance to step in, even if they're in doubt if they'll like the game or not.

I only played the single-player for For Honor, but for me the campaign was a really fun spectacle and I got what I wanted out of it. Without that promotion, the likelihood of me playing the game ever would've been close to zero thanks to their iffy prices on games.

Thanks for having a positive attitude towards the discussions. Too many people become egocentric and get angry at different opinions or at threads they don't want to see or replies they don't want to hear, even though this is a public forum. Keep up the positivity, maybe it'll rub off on someone :D

perhaps Epic need to use employees to work on their no effort DRM instead of posting epic related topics all over the internet.

Still waiting for one free game from epic what I don't have, they pro at giving away million years old games, which all were in tier 1 or very cheap bundles = not had any reason to go to the epic store yet but will do when they will give out something interesting + unowned, after all, I have a second PC for insecure sites and downloads:-) These free games not better than the usual "free game for X days if you add to your account" games on steam.

I disagree. Overall the quality of free games is much better on Epic than on Steam. Think of Subnautica, Axiom Verge, The Witness or Transistor. High quality and high value games. This is not cheap bundle crap. It's rather rare that you get games like that on Steam for free.

Not used the word crap (even tho for me, for example, Axiom Verge is a crap game and never would play it, even not if I would get paid for it, but this is a matter of taste, I don't like Metroidvania games). Every bundle is cheap, even HB monthly, the total value of games we get makes it very cheap and usually good.

They hyped the free games for 2019 so much and it is a total disappointment with all those bundled/multi bundled games, I am pretty sure they attract a lot of "FREE GAMES" players but their offers not really attractive for anyone who buys a lot of games, so actually potential buyers what they don't get. But I might be wrong.

Hopefully, they will give at least 1 game during 2019 what is cool for me, until then you disagree with me, I disagree with you, free speech and opinion freedom works, life is nice:-) + as just done with work and it is weekend life is even nicer:-)

Well, I don't think it makes sense to judge the Epic offer based on game collectors' accounts like your's or mine. We have all those games anyway, sure. We are not the target audience, though. The average user doesn't have thousands of games. The average user probably has like a hundred, or even less. The average user also doesn't buy all the bundles. In fact, I know quite a lot of gamers who didn't buy a single bundle in their life. And for those people it surely is quite nice to get games like The Witness or Subnautica for free (btw, Subnautica was never in a regular bundle, only in that 30$ premium humble bundle).

I think judging the Epic offer can only make sense if we compare it to other offers. And compared to free games you get on HB, on IndieGala, on GOG and even on Steam the free Epic games seem the most value to me. Those are not all tier 1 bundle games. Many are monthly quality or - as with Subnautica - even higher than that. Compare that to the average free game on Steam and Steam will lose big time.

For me it's basically the same as for you. I think there wasn't a single game I didn't have yet. But as I said, it doesn't seem fair to look at this from a collector's perspective. Steam, GOG and the others don't get this treatment, so why should Epic? At least I have yet to see someone bashing GOG for their free games and demanding higher quality. ;)

life is nice:-) + as just done with work and it is weekend life is even nicer:-)

Same for me. A crushing 40 degrees here right now, so it's really nice to be done with work and have some fun on the weekend. :)

I have no clue why you think that I am upset, I just don't see any point to go to that store to pick up freebies what I already own/have access too. btw: Are you upset that I don't run to there to register and take something I played already / not want to play?
