Save yourself some money and ditch the CPU cooler and Windows 8. I also don't get why people don't wait till cyber Monday to buy a new rig seeing as how it would be like $200 cheaper.

Lol, cpu coolers is necessary when you have a "K" series cpu, surely he's going to OC.

Do you oc? and what temps avg do you run at, its ideal to have the cpu running cool

Unless you live in the artic and or dont OC, you will need a new heatsink. Or maybe you enjoy the load whine of an intel fan at 80% all the time.

that CPU what that GPU?
well, i'd go for a better CPU.
i'd buy an i7 for that price. (you might need another mainboard tho.)

700W PSU is too much there, unless you're planning on going 3-way SLI. (the 760 just needs 170W and the CPU about 80W and i doubt, that you'll come even close to 400W if adding all other components on top...not with a 80 PLUS bronze PSU)

but it's an okay build, if you have the money, though you could go way better with that price...

overall opinion: go check out a local PC store near you, that you can trust (not that easy nowadays) and let them counsel you, that's better than random opinions from random guys with random flavors on the interwebZ.

What i7 are you getting for 230? the i7-870?
4670k stock will surpass the 870.

Also, i7 gives little performance boost in games compared to an i5-k version even in cpu strapped games. Money is far better served investing in a gpu unless op actual requires the need for the i7

ye, not bad. Nothing special with the exception of wifi adapter. I'd invest with a power line if your PC is out of reach from the modem.
Saved me a lot of frustration from gaming using wifi connections

i do that as well with a wireless router so that any wireless devices such as my playbook and my Xbox 360 can receive a better internet speed.

Why you're being told to ditch Win8, in a nut shell, is that by and large EVERYONE hates it. It's basically nothing but a slightly more optimized Win7 core, but with some UI and ease of access features missing that people are going batshit over, namely the lack of a proper Start menu. Basically, Win8 way over did the tablet/touch functionality, and sacrificed things that MOST people actually use, which has made the majority of the PC community rather irate.

As to the rest of your build, I'd say it looks pretty decent. I'm using Mushkin RAM myself, and it's been totally stellar. I should be able to play most anything with that 760, and the i5 combo. The Hyper 212 EVO is a fantastic air cooler for OCing... Generally I think you'll be pretty darn happy with that setup, and should be able to do just about anything you want with that PC, at least for the next year or two anyway. lol

Windows 8 does have some compatibility problems with some programs, so I rather use a proven compatible OS rather than one that isn't.

It looks pretty good there, though I don't see the need for Blu-Ray reading capabilities, unless you really intend to use it. The CPU cooler is really unnecessary though if you ask me.
On top of that, you don't need the Thermal Paste cause your CPU should already have it pre-applied.

1.) New heatsink is certainly needed as the stock heatsink is trash and can even result in users needing to downclock cpus due to heat.
2.) Preapplied compound is crap, and new stuff can result in an actual measurable difference, its also a requirement if you are changing heatsinks.

I would have dropped the 700 watts psu down to 500~ unless he plans to SLI.

Believe it or not, the preapplied compound that Intel uses is good, and not crap like you said. Still, I highly doubt he's buying premade, thus he doesn't need the paste yet.

You still don't need the paste though. The paste Intel preapplies is more than good enough.

but if the op wants to have even better paste why not?

Because you don't need to spend money on paste so you can use it on other stuff instead.

550w is good for builds with single GPUs
650w is good for builds with two GPUs
850w is good for builds with three GPUs
