I took a look at my bookshelf and the only horror books that I have are It and Salem's Lot by Stephen King, The Complete Stories and Poems by Edgar Allan Poe, some H.P. Lovecraft stories, Zig Zag by José Carlos Somoza.
Look them up, maybe you'll like one. ^^

Fifty Shades of Grey... even the thought of getting anywhere near that book scares the life out of me!!

But seriously though what do you consider horror? Steven King?

Dean Koontz had a book called Midnight that was good.

I can't remember what site this was originally posted and it's kinda shame because it was organized way better than wiki, but after all this is story that counts.

Go on a journey with a boy who wanted to enter the bonus room

Loooong creepypasta! I'll give it a read though and come back to say what I've thought! Yesterday I read this one - Operation Stingray. Also long af, but it's pretty cool! I recommend it.

I will try to read it tommorow. After that I will also come back here and share my thoughts :)

Also check this out - http://www.angelfire.com/trek/caver/

The dedication of an author, the fact that he created a site, photos... You really should check it in free time. It might seem long but you can read it in parts. Originally (as far as i know) it was posted like a normal diary.

Or maybe it was real diary... ;)

Oh, sorry for the long time. My internet was down =/. Anyways, I read the bonus room and honestly I thought it was kinda... meh. It's very light and it doesn't have a good ending in my opinion. I was pretty sure that the people in the last room were his parents, and after he answered that last question, he would have to kill the one he chose. The cave creepypasta I already read entirely but not on this website. I read it through a brazilian blog about creepypastas, and I remember some pictures in it, like the glove one. But I'm not sure if this site didn't exist back then or the blog just didn't know about it, because I remember it also linking to a similar website, but the story was, like, in just one page.

Edit: I found the blog post I was talking about. Turns out it's just a summary of the whole thing, and it actually links to the page you mentioned! I'll come back to it for sure.

I was browsing through my notifications and I realized that I didn't read story you posted -.- Well, I have to do it fast becasue I will forget again xD

On a more serious note - I don't know if this is true but I heard that this photo with guy poking his head out of that little hole was actually some kind of accident with guy who got stuck. It's kinda scary when you think about, I don't think I would be able to even try to fit in place like that :P

Stephen King - The Long Walk

Stephen King - The Running Man

Stephen King - From a Buick 8

Jack Ketchum - The Girl Next Door

I was going to make a really long list but I will stop at four. This are not light books, depending on your sensivity you might feel disturbed after reading them. I won't elaborate more on them, to save you from spoilers, but if you are looking for, let's say 'classic' horror, start with Buick.

I've not read a whole lot of horror books, even less so good ones, but most of what Lovecraft wrote is good. You just have to get past the fact that he is terrible at writing main characters (almost every one is pretty much the same).

Stephen King is very hit or miss I think. I think that most of his movies are better than the books, but there are exceptions, and some of his writing can be either over-descriptive or just a bit awkward. Heard good stuff about The Shining, but not read it yet (it's in my bookshelf at least).

Not sure if Stoker could be considered horror these days? I've read Dracula and The Lady of the Shroud and liked them both (the second one isn't much horror, just Gothic romance). I don't know about the e-book format though.

Stephen King has been mentioned already, but I'd recommend specifically his short story collections. The older, the better. I like pretty much everything he's written, but the short story is a form he really excels at.

"House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski is at times inaccessible, but very rewarding for the patient reader. "The Shining" by Stephen King is a classic. Some of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories are also deliciously hair-rising; I'm rather fond of "The Pit and the Pendulum" myself, as well as "The Tell-Tale Heart."

Hi!

I really REALLY recommend you Clive Barker's books, they are a masterpiece, even Stephen King said that.
The Hellbound Heart, read it if you can. The prose is outstanding.

If you don't mind your horror mingling with science-fiction, I would totally recommend Scott Sigler's Infected trilogy. It starts with... well, Infected, and then you have Contagious and then, Pandemic. They are all real page-turners, in my humble opinion. ^^

Since I'm a cat person and the trilogy deals with alien parasites, here's a picture combining the two ideas: you get Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley from the Alien movie franchise, with Jones/Jonesy, the cat we can see in Alien (1979). ^^

Don't read much horror books. I did like James Herbert's Haunted. It's available to purchase in ebook format as well.

Sorry, Jasmine, not sure if they're availabe in e-book format, but here are some of my faves:

by Dean Koontz:
Twilight Eyes
books featuring Christopher Snow: Fear Nothing and Seize the Night
Midnight
The Taking (fascinating twist on the apocalypse)

by Bentley Little
The Resort I don't know that I actually recommend the book, but it is definitely well-written... It's uncomfortable and disturbing; horrifying in the basest way possible. I read it once years ago, and those feelings are still strong in my memory. shudder

by Stephen King
Skeleton Crew A (very long) series of short stories in one book that have stayed with me since I was about 15 years old (when I first read it.) I'm 42 now, so it's definitely some strong imagery!

clive barker is my main go to for horror books.
i also dig Joe Hill (Stephen King's son)
dont care for Stephen King much but did like the Dark Tower series although i dont think of it as being classified under the horror genre.
i also suggest Dan Simmons
you might also try Chuck Hogan & Guillermo Del Toro's book The Strain thats if you havent seen the tv show yet.

if your looking for a dark comedy plus horror, id suggest Breathers: A Zombie's Lament

Richard Laymon: anything by him, personally recommend In the Dark, One rainy Night, Island, Traveling Vampire Show, Funhouse. Take a perfectly normal situation, then make it jump the tracks and there you go..
Edward Lee: The Bighead, Monstrosity, The Messenger, Portrait of the Serial Killer as a Young Woman. Be sure and bring your barf bag. Find his film Header if you can, too. Total thematic nastiness on par with Hanger, Human Shitopede and Serbian Film.
Brian Keene: The Rising trilogy, Conqueror Worms, Dark Hollow. Amazing concurrent themes through his books.
Jack Ketchum: Red, Girl Next Door, Ladies Night. More dark fiction than horror at times, but brutal in his violence. The movie adaptations of his work are generally pretty solid.
Dan Simmons: The Terror. Holy fuck that book is incredible. Supposedly AMC is making a series of it. You'll have a good time with anything he does, though.

You can DL most of their bodies of work but I highly recommend supporting them (or in Laymon's case, his estate) by purchasing their books. These guys don't reign on the bestsellers lists but they put their heart and soul into what they do and it shows. Plus I've bullshitted with Keene and Ketchum and they're both awesome dudes. Plus they don't hire hitmen to whack the dudes who hit them with their cars.
