I mean wishing that those who take this action don't make another penny in the industry is kind of wishing harm to those people.

Maybe if people didn't overreact every time a dime a dozen indie dev took an action we wouldn't have as many people outraged over trivialities.

So we've established that the developers haven't called Valve racist.

They pulled their games because in their view Valve hasn't explicitly stated that they are anti-racist, ergo the silence bit. Valve not speaking out doesn't make them racist, it just doesn't make them explicitly anti-racist in the view of the developers.

At the end of the day, companies only have one value - making money.

Some people see indecision as erring on the side they are against, I'm not going to defend the developers on that. I think its misguided for people to expect companies to genuinely support causes, but some change can be made even if its done in a cynical way by the company.

On a seperate note, if your toaster ever does tell you to put anything in it, slices of pizza or otherwise. I suggest unplugging it and throwing it at the nearest wall until you're sure it can't evolve further.

Humble has a large number of charities available, a lot of which are for social justice in one form or another. It's not new.

And look, I agree with you that not every company has to make a political stand (and Valve probably thinks that, given their target, it would hurt them more than losing a few games in the long run) but I respect the choice of indie devs who are trying to affect change in whatever way, however small, they deem appropriate.

Most brands are hypocritical when it comes to those issues (and many others) but it doesn't mean companies who work with brands, any brand, don't have a right to decide to stop working with them if they don't agree with their silence.

Free market, free choice. Wishing them harm for making a decision that is a matter of opinion and a personal choice regarding their own integrity is childish, imo.

They haven't stated that they do so your logic is flawed. And wishing these devs harm is @justseedy's opinion regardless of what you think which they are entitled to as you stated.

Making no statements for PR like Valve instead of trying to take advantage of the situation like EA and Bethesda is something we should commend them for. It's not like the SJW types can be satisfied anyway since they would complain no matter what saying that the statements are empty if they are made and insinuate the company is racist if they aren't made. Ah, so this is what desperate indie devs salty at the world are doing for easy press now...

No, wait, hold on a minute, I agree, what on Earth would we do without game companies making a stand on this?! I mean listen, I'm a steam user and a gamer, and if Steam isn't talking about this whole ""BLM "" (battlefield lives matter amirite?!) thing then like, how or why am I supposed to know or care, you know? Yes this is how I am. I'm just a dumb dumb gamer. And all companies of any service should know it's THEIR job to tell their customers like me what's right and what's wrong in the world. Because we'd just be so LOST without them. The... businesses, who are always otherwise so righteous and generous and entirely not self-serving?

While irrelevent to the point I was making, they can simply find Valves silence to be distasteful to the point they want to distance themselves, if the subject is really close to their hearts. That's a far cry from calling them racist. If you really wanted to project upon them, it would be more accurate to suggest they found them too apathetic on a divisive issue.

None of that subtracts from the fact you were knowingly dishonest in your assertions, to skew the reception the posted subject towards your view of the overarching subject, though.

Not everything is spinning around BLM. There are a million other problems around (2nd outbreak of COVID-19, world hunger, pollution, etc). Why every corporation has to focus on this one particular problem? Coz it's trendy? Coz part of community lobbing that? If Steam/Origin/Itch/HB/anyothercompanyoftheplanet don't say it aloud doesn't it mean they do nothing. Maybe not every company wants to get famous on this "event"

Just cool down a bit folks.

Yeah.... I'm about as progressive as they come but this is silly. To shame a company for not choosing to make a statement about a current event/movement?

If a company makes a statement followed by honest commitments to help further a cause, GREAT! Support that company, buy their products over others, etc.

But to boycott a company because they didn't make a statement on an issue that you're passionate about? Come on.

They don't boycott them. It's a store and they choose not to sell their products there. They're not clients of Valve. They're partners. It's a choice I respect even though I disagree with the sentiment that every brand needs to speak up about issues.

I had to laugh at the three devs who were named - like really? One of them clearly is a liberal cry-baby, while the other two I actually haven't heard of their games.

The point is: this whole current BLM charity shit (don't get me wrong, I think charities have a good idea, but I feel this whole fiasco is racist on both sides of the argument) was spurred into action by a bunch of COPS doing stuff they shouldn't have been doing to another human being. Yes he was black (dark brown actually - let's get our colours correct!), but it had nothing to do with the gaming industry. If anything, it should be COPS, and governments around the world that should be showing their solidarity against this stuff, and doing donations themselves. But, as someone said already, it's not money that counts at the end of the day, it's actions that matter.

I'm sure there are other thoughts rattling around in my head, but I reckon some people just need to shut up, cos all they're doing is inciting more hate, deflecting the actual problems at hand, and they're not helping the issues at all.

It's very important to be against racism and to make a statement. But just because they're "silent" they are racists?

It's pretty obviously implied that non-black lives are already considered to matter - the whole objective is to point out the gross overrepresentation of black people as victims of police killings. I think they missed an opportunity to call it Black Lives Also Matter (BLAM!). They could have claimed that Batman was a supporter as well as prevented people willfully misinterpreting Black Lives Matter.

I think it's ridiculous to expect people and corporations to make public statements every time there is a high profile hate crime or disaster.

  • "What? It's been six hours and the opposition leader hasn't made a public statement condemning the latest tragedy? Maybe he secretly wants police to kill unarmed black men or nutters to shoot up mosques or aeroplanes to crash or earthquakes to kill people".
  • "What? They haven't changed their logo to rainbow colours for the month - maybe the company management hate homosexuals".

However, that's not what's in the link. It's not that they're racists, but they're making Valve see that they should care, and devs do it in the only way they can. So joke's on justseedy for being unable to properly read, and for people who attack them thinking they really believe that.
