It's alright, but it's not something I honestly play. Need someone that's played both to give you an honest opinion.

Really tempted to buy Last Federation, but it might end up in a bundle soon (see what you've done to me bundles? 80% off on a game that was not all that expensive to begin with and I still hesitate) & 1953 Alcatraz (which is 95% off). The games on my GOG-wishlist, apart from those, don't seem to be on sale though :(

Oh, and for those who don't know what to get, at least get this game. It's a true hidden gem.

Need some help, Witcher 1 and 2 are 85% off there too, and i missed it when they were on sale. But Steam summer sale is happening soon, and sometimes buying from there gets bonuses. So get it now or?

The gog versions have been given out for free a lot of times and getting them on steam gets you a copy on gog too. Probably would be better to just trade. (Psst, I might have an unused gog code for witcher 2, pm me if interested).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i don't have anything to trade (except the ship, but everyone should have that already), and honestly i haven't bought anything from gog before, so I don't know how it works. Guess i'll just wait for steam sales

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, if you change your mind about witcher 2, just add me. (I wasn't offering a trade btw, I'm giving it for free, but nobody wants it XD I'm not 100% it's still working though)

sure i'll take it off your hands if you're willing, i'll even send you the ship, considering you don't have it either

The Witcher games are excellent (and you do get a bonus from GOG as well in the form of a free game), so as long as you don't feel the need to have all games on Steam, I would recommend getting them on GOG.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

not a fan of sim city though, so that bonus doesn't weigh that much against Steam's. Worst case i'll just wait for Steam

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you buy Witcher 1 and/or 2 on Steam, you can redeem them for free on GoG.com :)

I'd recommend waiting until the summer sale or whenever it goes 75-85%, which has been pretty often recently

Toonstruck was released on GOG? How did I miss this? Shame that part 2 will never see the light of day :(

There was some talk about a kickstarter for a second game / putting in the removed pieces in the first one.
But really just seems to be talk only. Can't see why they don't just try a kickstarter.

One of the original devs from Toonstuck actually visited a forum that I frequent quite some time ago in an attempt to get people to show interest in a sequel, and was trying to gather names, but sadly not enough people signed his list for anyone to look into it (apparently there were some rights issues that needed to be resolved). I don't remember if this was before GOG existed, or just before GOG got big.

So not just discounts but: "Unlock up to three free games, with daily bundles & game discounts up to 90% off, and a torrent of surprises!"

Every summer adventure needs something special, that's why this year you can earn up to three games for free during the sale! Just do your thing, and the more you spend, the more free stuff you'll get! Regardless of whether you own the game or not, you'll receive a giftable code via email so you can redeem it yourself - or share it with a friend. The rewards -- free for everyone whose total spendings during the Summer Sale exceed a certain amount -- will include:

SimCity 2000 - free for everyone who spends at least $1.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - free for everyone who spends at least $20.
Xenonauts - free for everyone who spends at least $50.

ARGH! I just bought the entire Interplay weekend promo yesterday morning... Next day, sale starts. >:(

Permalink

Can't you refund?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I have 29 days left to do so. There aren't any Interplay sales yet as it's only Day 1 with the first release of things, so I'll hold out. If they come along at better deals then I will.

My initial thought was that I just spent quite a lot buying the whole weekend promo and now they throw their summer sale at us the next day. They're killing my wallet. I wonder if there will be anything left for Steam? :p

Jade Empire for Steam supposedly has some issues (I haven't tried it though) but gog version has none so if you're interested in the game, which I can only recommend for being a great game which I've played through several times, then buy it on gog.

Thanks for the info - I wishlisted it on Steam but the mostly positive reviews made me curious, and there was a lot of negative reviews regarding Steam's version - it's really good to hear that GOG's is a good one :)

Not really convinced to buy anything at all. Only thing I'd really want are the Stalker games but since they were in a bundle I think 5 bucks is a little much, so I'll pass.

I only use GoG for retro games that aren't on steam, so I doubt I'll be spending a whole lot. Let us see :D.

Hmm, interesting. I'm going to have to think about this since I really want a big cushion for the summer sale since you never know when something good pops up.

But it's only 3something €-s(HoMM III alone), not a big loss

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What is the difference between the HoMM III on steam and the one on GoG? I've heard something to this effect before but I'm not sure what it is tbh.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Steam's one is the vanilla - Complete on GOG adds two expansions: Armageddon's Blade (1 faction, 13 creatures, 2 items, 6 campaigns) and Shadow of Death (random map generator, combination artifacts, 7 campaigns) and each game brings quite a few maps for single- or multiplayer use - quite a lot of them available in team-system as well.
As complete will be about 3€ during the sale, it's quite a worthy buy IMO :)

Permalink

Use it for retro games that are on steam as well. Gog does a much better job in optimizing them.

Any experience with The Chaos Engine? Haven't tried steam's one, but it's not really praised :\

Permalink

I haven't played that one, but I think it's a remade version so it probably doesn't really matter because it's not the old release.

I nice oportunity to grab some oldies. The old games always work better as DRM-FREE GOG version thant those selling on STEAM (i see some of them on steam that even have the "highres" icons from GOG =P )

I never owned a legit copy of the game and now that I'm all grown up (yeah, let's call it that for the argument's sake, lol) I'd love to make our long-term relationship (loving it for well 10 years) legit xD

I'm quite glad that I picked it up when I did, right about when it hit the bargain bins (been quite lucky in regards to that, I've managed to collect several expensive & hard to get games that way). I just wish i would have picked up a boxed version of The Dig (my favourite Lucas Arts adventure game)

I expect a game I want goes on a deeper sale. It's pretty pathetic offering only 60% for Heroes 3 Complete.

That does sound pathetic. The lack of discounts is quite surprising though, considering how heavily Steam discounts pretty much all of its catalog.
