So I had this great idea.

In the US this year (and I don't live in the US), Flag day occurs on 14 June. Father's Day occurs on 16 June. I can put the two of them together and launch a new puzzle event combining the two on the 15th of June. Easy Peasy. So I started writing puzzles in May to meet a 15 June launch date.

Uhhhh... Yeah, I always underestimate how long it takes to finish writing puzzles. Sigh... So somewhat belatedly, five weeks late, please find my FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS Event.

A few ground rules: The "Flags" part and the "Fathers" part can both be done independently. They are each separate events with their own metapuzzles, which make use of the answers from the other puzzles. The "Of Our" is an appropriate lighter appetiser to link the two parts together and like the others, it can be done separately and independently.

There are no hidden puzzles, or hidden giveaways in this event. What you see is what you get. If you want any guidance as to how I write my puzzles, I can again recommend my magic guide (this should not be confused for Zelghadis' excellent guide).

Each of these puzzles have been written so that each will yield a single word or short phrase for the answer, which means I can use them with ITSTOOHARD. Not all of the puzzles are original (though most are). Where I have used an unoriginal puzzle, I will of course provide full information about the source, and where you can get others of that creator's puzzles.

The contributor level for all games is set to 1. I usually use SGTools, but have decided not to do so this time.

ALL of the puzzles are open from the start, but to take some of the pressure off, I am staggering the event. So the giveaways will be staggered, which means that you may be able to solve a puzzle at the very start, but not enter the associated giveaway. Later on in the event, you can reopen the ITSTOOHARD page and jump straight to the reward giveaways. The exception to this is the Of Our section, which will not open until 25 July

Also, I don't really care if you do not play your wins, but I do care deeply if a game does not reach 5 entries, so if you are one of the first five to solve something, and you wouldn't mind seeing that game in your library, then please enter the giveaway. You can always choose to remove your entry later (once 5 people have entered it).

One last thing, some of these puzzles will yield to backsolving. That is not an inadvertent design flaw. I knew that when I wrote them. Backsolving is still solving. You are perfectly entitled to enter the giveaways if you backsolve a puzzle. Though feel free to leave a note on the giveaway page, so I can tell if the puzzles that I thought would yield to backsolving are indeed the puzzles that led themselves to backsolving and to get some feel for the ratio of forward solvers to backsolvers.

Congratulations to Beridok who becomes the third person to finish the whole thing, after seNs and send3r.

Anyone else looking for any hints on any specific puzzles.

I managed to work out Flags of the World & World Travel.
I feel like I have done the first steps for What we talk about when we talk about flags and Places in an embarrassing state, but I am now stuck trying to extract something meaningful from the initial answers.

I can't give hints, but there is already one for puzzle you have problem with.
I paste it below, just in case you didn't see...

Hints for What we talk about when we talk about flags

Some people claim that they can't see this one, which is kind of appropriate

Father time says the first half of the alphabet is A-E, is that intentional?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, that would be a screw up thanks.

Hmmmm... because the Father Time puzzle is a graphic, there is no way to put an M in in place of the E. I will drop the top and middle bars of the E to turn it into A-L, which is still not right, but which does not actually affect the results of the puzzle.

Just rotate the E 90° clockwise. :P

honestly if you read the other message, I have no clue, but still I wonder why or better how are these 2 extra lines there. A simple screenshot doesn't create stuff

Yes, I was trying to do this tonight, but I keep falling asleep on the couch. If I cannot get it done tonight (and it takes hours), then I will do it tomorrow morning European time.

I did say above that "I don't really care if you do not play your wins, but I do care deeply if a game does not reach 5 entries, so if you are one of the first five to solve something, and you wouldn't mind seeing that game in your library, then please enter the giveaway. You can always choose to remove your entry later (once 5 people have entered it)."

I have a bunch of puzzles with a lot of solves (in Flags and Of Our) but not many entries. Please enter the giveaways.
Again, I do not care if you play your wins. I care if they count by getting five entries.

I feel like I must be the only one stuck on Flags of the World. I can see some words are repeated, and I managed to identify the country flags, but I have zero clue on what flag equals what letter. The first letter of the name of the country just yields gibberish, and trying to back solve letters based on what flags were most common didn't help either, so I'm stumped. I'm probably missing something obvious lmao.

As the puzzle said: This is a substitution cipher
You can check Mikalye’s Magic Guide, I think you will find something helpful there.
You'll need to identify the country flags after finding out what flag equals what letter but it isn't necessary to identify before solved the cipher.

Sitting in the same boat as you.
Very close to the nowrong - but imagine that could have been due to the correction?

Even though the hint is very useful - something is missing...

Well, I was actually able to find the correct answer (but not "NOWRONG", I believe it's impossible to achieve it without making a mistake in one step)

When you think Father Time is easy and straight forward it's like you're a captain on a ship.

Then you realize you're not on a ship but on a Jet-ski (Personal Watercraft)
Then you realize you're not a captain but way to young teenager.
And lastly you're not in tropical nice warm weather but somewhere way to far north.
