Valiant Hearts / Can't get it to run

Hi, I recently acquired a Valiant Hearts Uplay key from steamtrades. I activated my game on Uplay, and everything looked fine. However, as I was going to launch the game, I noticed it was labeled as already installed, so I clicked "Play"... the problem is, Uplay redirected me to the Steam Shop page of Valiant Hearts, and nothing else happened. What's the problem with this game? Have I been scammed?

But Uplay didn't tell me that it was region locked, neither Steam did. Also, I tried using a RU VPN, but nothing changed.

It's not region-locked.. it's just a key that is linked to a Steam version which you don't own.. sounds to me like the trader who sold you that key was just trying to fool you.

I redeemed the key on Uplay, then tried to launch the game, but got redirected to the Steam Shop.

If you get it from steam normally, steam will hand out a key to redeem it on uplay.
Whenever you try to open the game from uplay, uplay will start steam and after that the game will be started inside steam.
So maybe this new region lock is only active on the steamgifts/keys for redemption? and someone added his locked copy to a new account just to get the uplay key from it.
The uplay activation will work eventually but in order to play it's trying to start the game inside steam, yet you don't have it on steam so it can't be started and thus you are being redirected to the shop page.

Thats the only thing which come to my mind, which would explain your starting problem.

Sounds like this. Yes, but even trader might not know that, so you can try asking for refund. If he gives it, he isn't scammer.

They made it region locked becuz the Russion store was abused. If you didn't activate before that time, it's useless for you.

he said he got a uplay key, the locked ones are only steamgifts with RU tag.
Still I think someone is trying to recycle his locked copies by adding them on fresh accounts and hand over only the uplay key which shows on your library in steam after activating the game.

This has nothing to do with a region lock. If he got a region locked version, he'd not have been able to do anything with it.

someone activated their copy on Steam then gave you the corresponding Uplay key, so you can't play it under these circumstances. Either you are scammed or trader may not have any knowledge about that. try contacting him/her

This. Your problem has nothing to do with a region lock.

If you get it on Steam when you install it and run it it gives you a Uplay key that you have to plug into Uplay to get the game to run. What happened was the trader gave you the Uplay key from a Steam version, but you need it on Steam as well.

The trader give you his Uplay key generated from Steam. That's why it open Steam when you clicked play.
