Guys, you got it wrong. It wasn't a happy ending, it was Steam Customer Service taking 10 years to do a 5 minutes job. :D

While reading this i had the thought that his father had his own steam account and let his son playing his games. He got tired of the fact that he couldn't play his own games because the child wanted to play all day and he just changed the email and password.

Anyway nice story. It's good he got it back.

Hopefully whoever had the account was actually a malicious account hijacker/thief, and not some random noob who purchased an account from some con-site before steam got big. I think the most likely way this went down, is that the father may have made a steam-purchase at his workplace or a library, and then forgotten to sign out immediately. Next person comes along and jacks the recovery process to claim the account.
