Yes, it is a cracked release for the latest version

BF2 may have already
been cracked but that was in 2019
before a lot of offline modes like
Instant Action were added.

Thanks!

Denuvo removed from [Shadow] and [Rise] {of the Tomb Raider}

https://www.dsogaming.com/news/denuvo-removed-from-shadow-of-the-tomb-raider-rise-of-the-tomb-raider/

UPDATE: some new issues have caused the roll back to a previous build, meaning Denuvo should still be there unfortunately.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/391220/discussions/0/4580716151549921865

Apaarently the newest version connected the Steam game to the Epic online service. Whether this was intentional or not, I dunno.

I understand the rollback was only performed for Rise of the Tomb Raider so I will only add "Shadow of the TR" until they update again, thanks!

Those are great news because for older games (still infected) it will be cheaper/easier to remove Denuvo than to update to the latest version, because Denuvo is expensive.

Thanks, it seems the game had 6 different "protections", that's why they spent so much time to crack it.

And then they wonder why they ace "worst gaming company of the year" every year.

I don't really keep track of what games have Denuvo and which does. My only issue with Denuvo was for one game, AC Valhalla and the fact that I had an i12 CPU. They fixed the issue, but in general, I don't pay attention to what games have, I just buy them if I like them and check reviews to make sure it's functional before any purchase.

I wish EA would remove it from Madden 22. I have a feeling it's the reason that it constantly freezes and crashes for many people despite them having PCs well over the recommended requirements.

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't think EA would ever remove Denuvo for a multiplayer game, it was never removed for FIFA series AFAIK.

Example: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1313860/EA_SPORTS_FIFA_21/

Even when FIFA 22 is the current version and the most played.

That's a rather peculiar thing to make a point of commenting in such an old thread (by which I don't mean it's inactive, but that it's long past the point where comments that are based fully in presenting a view contrary to the thread's purpose (and which may thereby imply a lack of thread utility) would be expected). That aside, I can assure you that Denuvo has a slew of issues, based off my own poor experiences with it. Of course, as with many services that have technical issues, there's a bit of randomness to who is affected, though one's system setup can also potentially play a large part in things.

Fundamentally, the key associated issues are that Denuvo tends to use up additional memory and processing, and also introduces several potential instabilities (ie, leading to lock-ups, crashes, or similar). I've personally had several games with performance issues due to Denuvo, and even more games with crashes on game load (with related Denuvo-specific error prompts always coming up alongside the crashes, confirming the source of the crashing).

The free (and thus absolutely baffling to have DRM) Adventures of Captain Spirit (from the Life is Strange franchise) is especially notable in reliably crashing for me on load, making it so that I've still only managed to get it to succesfully load once over 4 years, and even then I ended up closing it due to stuttering.

Captain Spirit, however, is a rare game that still retains Denuvo after so long- the even more notable point is that the other games I've had issues with all started working just fine in every respect (ie, crashing, performance, memory usage) once Denuvo was removed. In fact, this difference is so reliable, that in the past I had intentionally downloaded games (that I owned) through torrenting, just because the cracked versions worked while the paid versions did not.

(As a similarly awkward benefit of cracked game availability, back when Win 10 was brand new and still having frequent compatibility issues with various games, I noticed that the cracked versions of several games had introduced compatability fixes long before the official versions of games themselves did. In fact, I recall downloading one owned game [I believe it was CK 2?] specifically to work around compatibility issues, with the cracked/user-patched game working just fine.)

Mind you, it's not just Denuvo that's known for this issue- Red Shell is another comparable third-party DRM that has a similar reputation for breaking games. Of course, Uplay's DRM predates Denuvo by 2 years, so it's likely it was the first DRM known to substantially break games (specifically, it was known for breaking Ubisoft games that were run through Steam, due to issues with the double DRM layering; Newer games no longer have this problem, but last I heard and/or personally checked older games still hadn't received retroactive fixes, and were still having the same issues.)

With this thread, we not only get some general gaming information, but for those of us encountering issues with a Denuvo/Red Shell-infected game, we can easily be informed as to when it's possible to download a game (again, that we've paid for) and get a working version of it. Unfortunately, with Captain Spirit being a free game, I don't imagine that'll ever be an option for it. And, after four years, I've given up on the publisher regaining some semblance of sanity on the matter. :S

(I did however find an amusng comment by another individual having issues with Captain Spirit, wherein they noted that dealing with Denuvo problems was the real cost of the free game [as other LiS titles do eventually remove Denuvo]. :P)

TL;DR version, the problems are very much real, and can be very substantial, making this thread rather useful for those monitoring specific games, but the scope of the issues will differ person to person, even for the same game. Having a PC more in line with the PCs the developers developed on will likely lessen your chances of having issues (perhaps even more than a difference in PC component quality will, as I've read users with self-reported high-spec PCs also having issues with Denuvo in certain cases).

One would think that the devs would adjust the system requirements according to the inclusion of Denuvo. I understand that many people use denuvo as a thing to justify piracy too.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's more about the publisher than the developer; the DRM is added after the development is over so sometimes they have to release a patch right after the regular release because Denuvo literally kills the performance.

Denuvo is an anti consumer DRM, as Sooth explained, many times you have to download the cracked version to fix a game you have already paid for.
