They did forget to add a few more characters: Sarah Kerrigan, Geralt of Rivia, John Marston and Mario Mario

Don't forget that a good amount of the costs goes into the licensing fees.

My daughter's already bugging me for the new Mortal Kombat, it's her favorite game series. If I tell her Joker's in it, she's gonna go ballistic.
I really don't want to pay anything close to full price, and was hoping to wait a few years
in case anyone asks, she's seven. she just loves the fatalities

Since MK X is it just a joke! (20$ / € for the crpyt, to unlock everything) and it's veeeeeeeeeeery grindy...
DON'T support this, buy cheap(er)!!!

A) there's no need to do the krypt. It just unlocks art and alternative costumes. Oh, and fatality/brutality codes for the in-game controls list, but you can also just google those
B) You get koins for the krypt just by playing; there's really no need to pay for it, even if you want to do the krypt (unless you really can't wait to unlock some stupid art)
C) There's nothing new about it. Tekken and Soul Caliber required more effort to unlock playable characters.
Calling a brawler grindy is funny, because everyone pretty much does the same fights over and over and over again - the gameplay is the very definition of grinding.

A) Yes, but to offer it, is a dick move...and some buy it maybe...that not good for the future.
C) It's bad enough that that is the standard, this is what I mean..everything what can you buy triggers everytime people. And the DLC politics is going always badder and badder...
But it's not cool when you want anything and you MUST play many times, for just 1 thing. SF is a good example as well..

it is what it is. Some people like unlockables. Personally, I never cared for the Krypt, and the game is perfectly fun without. My daughter likes unlocking things, so it's a nice little extra for her.
I haven't played them in a while, but, I used to hate having to go through hoops to unlock characters in Tekken or Soul Caliber. At the same time, it was nice to have extra characters, and by the time you unlocked a new one, quite often you were getting tired of the old ones anyway.
DLC is a different matter. I can see the business argument for (extra content for those willing to pay extra), and some games implement DLC quite well, where the base game is perfectly fine without them, but the additions are worth getting for those willing to pay more. On the other hand, some games the DLC is content cut out of the game, or it's an incomplete game, or just overpriced skins that don't add anything, or what have you. And that's a problem.
I have no objection to well-implemented DLC.
