EU GDPR laws all had to be done by the deadline so you will get a lot of spam. Deadline was yesterday so should be stopping after today at the latest (hopefully).

Oh that's good to hear the deadline was yesterday, didn't know how long it would go on. Thanks.

Well technically the deadline was the 25th May but I am still getting some today but it finally seems to be dying down.

EDIT: However, USA are thinking of implementing something similar as well so prepare for another batch some time in the future.

Depends how much the US and EU regulations differ and how much they already changed to meet the EU regulations. It could be that after GDPR companies have already made any changes that would be required by new US regulations.

It's mandatory due to the GDPR. It is actually a good thing for us, be thankful that they're actually following through with the procedure.

Oh yeah the change itself is absolutely a good thing, but i think it's a waste to get a notification email about it (as in they just should do it automatically) , which leads to (massive) spam which itself is a problem on itself as i myself already get a few a day without these.

I know that it's a pain in the ass, but they have to inform the user and the best way to do it is through mail. At least it was useful for me to login on some old websites and delete those accounts.

Its not suppouse to change anything, though..
Its there to make consumer aware of what information is collected and used.

If you dont agree to something you dont use the product.

PS. Of course, that is if they explain the terms.. I agree with you if "accepting" is the only new thing implemented but not the explenation of use of information.

That kind of attitude I was talking about - if you don't like our way - take the highway, it is simply wrong, it was an attempt to oblige service providers that they must try to comply with higher standards than they use at the moment, in short - something similar to ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 and that data leaks should not stay unannounced plus the right of consumer to be deleted whenever it is possible.

I dont much care for online sites.. I mostly ignore the mails and changes.

But I was a bit frustrated with malls in my country.
These two biggest mall chains have their own "gift" cards. I dont know how to call them in english. The one you can use at the register and recieve discounts and get sort of cash back.
One of these malls have an awesome card - I fill my car up at the gas station and I recieve money from it on my card and then I can spend it in a mall. And they have consoles in malls that you can see info of your card, discounts you can get and how much money you have on this card.
I think they started endorsing this change of information law a month before. We were asked to renew our data and agree to use it if we want to participate in using it.. So basically you go on this console, and eletronically renew everything. Takes half a minute.

I go into the other mall which have their own card (about the same system). And they had everything done this week, days before that GDPR. And it was all done in written form. They had to explain every person what to do at the cash register and then the mall was full of people filling in forms in the middle of walkways.. And if you didnt do it your card gets cancelled..

I just chose to ignore that.. Its 21st century..

The most ridiculous thing (funny ways) I came across about GDPR was the site of Bloody Disgusting - a really cool site that mostly publishes articles about upcoming horror movies, games, indie projects - an all-around really well done horror-site. They couldn't update their site in time to be GDPR-compatible, so they just locked EU out of their site, with a "sorry, we are working on it, GDPR happened and we aren't ready yet" type of message :D

Happened to plenty of sites, including professional ones. LA Times also locked out the EU, WaPo forces EU members to pay for a premium sub or to create a free account AND accept that they'll ignore your rights. USA Today created a "EU only" portal, that is free of trackers and ads.

Lol, then a good-willed site just being short on time is really not the worst out there.

At least it's not like ghostery. They ended up sending a mail without using BCC and everyone that received the email can see the others it was sent to. https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/8m45k6/ghostery_have_exposed_everyones_email_address_in/

One of the services I used (an iOS app notifying about price changes for watched apps) just closed for everyone for an unknown period due to not being able to deal with GDPR in time :<

yeah this is really getting annoying in my view, I'm getting those messages everywhere =\ like real massive spam, in two or three days I probably saw and had to accept 50 or 60 things and received lots of mails from things I know just by name and really don't even know why should I had subscribed to, like economics newspapers or spam games websites so well the main thing that will happen is a massive unsubscribe to tons of websites due to this thing XD

Blame EU... nothing changes though.. The app/website whatever is still selling your INFO you just have to ACCEPT that fact to use their service?

Eh...

Not entirely true. Now people have to knowingly give up their privacy for a few euros of discounts and trinkets. They can't blame anyone but themselves when the shit hits the fan at the next data abuse scandal.
Or they can choose to opt out of data mining programs.

I'm getting A LOT less than I should be. I think I've only gotten about fifteen or so but know for a fact it's not even close to the number of sites I've signed up on. Ok, I know some sites are informing through their member areas but still. Some seem to be sending out theirs during the weekend.
Funnily though, I have a friend who's been replying to all these GDPR infomails with a request to see the data and been getting straight out refusals! :D Companies are really on top of this, me thinks.
