Hello!

My mother really loves Hidden Object games. She has played the games of Artifex Mundi and now she is looking for more games. Do you know good Hidden Object games?

Thanks!

this company has a bunch, i almost have all in my library, also they have all been in bundles. Indiegala had one last week with I think 6 of these in it, might still be on but price increased.

Good hidden object games? That's oxymoron.

So do I. They're great if you don't want to focus on anything serious and long. Perfect for a 2 hour break from all the "serious" games.

Which HO games have you actually played and what you didn't like about them?

I played some when I was a little child. Hated them then, I hate them still to this day. It's a clickfest, not even a real game.

Oh, so games in which you use only mouse and click stuff are not "real games"? Please, tell me more how adventure games and RTS games are not "real games".

Even fucking Minesweeper from Windows is a game. You my want to read the definition of what a game is.

You don't like them? That's fine. But don't make them out to be lesser games than other games or genres. Nowadays many HO games are very well made and incorporate puzzles, talking with other characters and other mechanics taken from point & click adventure games. If you're talking about HO games like Escape Rosecliff Island then I agree that kind is really bad. But all Artifex Mundi games or those I enumerated a few posts below are really good, well made and provide tons of fun.

Adventure games have way more interaction than pointing and clicking. Well, at least the good ones. RTS games are even deeper (building a base, units, resource management, etc.)

For your information - I've always hated Minesweeper as well.

Sorry for having an opinion, Laura. For me, it is a "lesser" genre. And if you're throwing definitions around, you also need to draw a line where a hidden object game becomes an adventure game.

Gah, guy tries to be witty and ends up explaining himself.

Hahah, I just explained to you that you judge something you don't have a slightest clue about dude :)

It's like me saying this and that car sucks without actually even driving them. Also you wouldn't ask about "drawing the line" if you played those kind of games. Because it's clear which games are hidden object or not. Even the name suggests it. I respect when people have opinions on something but I don't respect when people hate on something without even using it for more than a few minutes (and a long time ago as you mentioned previously). To me it's like jumping to conclusions because it actually is precisely that.

Also, you said that HO games are a "clickfest" but RTS games are also "clickfest". You were not talking about the complexity of the games, you were talking about the way you play them so following your logic every game in which player uses only mouse to play is a "clickfest" and, I quote, "not a real game". Either that or you formulated sentence that you don't agree with. Both are laughable.

Kheops did release a trilogy of HOGs (The Fall Trilogy), and Kheops were pretty awesome. The series is pretty good by HO game standards. They went out of business, but their games are still around in a lot of stores. Big Fish Games seems to be THE destination for HOGs, and they have them.

Also, there are loads of casual adventures she could try that are natural extensions of HOGs. Like "Gone Home" which as much as anything is a game about searching a house for hidden objects.

Top rated hidden object games at Big Fish Games. Also every year end BFG has the best games of the year in various categories (art, story, ...). BFG is the best store I know for HOGs (in terms of variety).

The Book of Unwritten Tales is fun, but it's more of an adventure/puzzle game. Still, worth a shot!

I've beaten quite a lot hidden object games on Steam during last year. And I'm going through them right now just for the sake of it so I might write down all of them that are not very well known but which I definitely enjoyed (I'm going to omit all Artifex Mundi games because you already know about them):

Angelica Weaver: Catch Me When You Can
Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles
Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy
Midnight Mysteries 2: Salem Witch Trials
Midnight Mysteries 3: Devil on the Mississippi
Midnight Mysteries 4: Haunted Houdini
Infected: The Twin Vaccine
Dracula: Love Kills
Paranormal State: Poison Spring
Princess Isabella: A Witch's Curse
Princess Isabella 2: Return of the Curse
Princess Isabella 3: Rise of an Heir
White Haven Mysteries
Theatre of the Absurd
Empress of the Deep: The Darkest Secret
Empress of the Deep 2: Song of the Blue Whale
Mirror Mysteries 2: Forgotten Kingdoms
Robin's Quest: A Legend Born
Dark Lore Mysteries: The Hunt for Truth
Lost Civilization
Evil Pumpkin: The Lost Halloween

I also omitted HO games I considered "pretty nice but nothing really special". So I wrote down the ones I considered really/very good.

And a note to the first Midnight Mysteries game: It's not something extremely good but it's the first one from the series so it's worth playing before moving on to the rest. 2, 3 and 4 are of way higher quality than this one so keep that in mind if you won't like the first one. Same goes for Princess Isabella - first game is nice but nothing really special while the 2nd one and 3rd one are very good. And same thing with Empress of the Deep. First one is pretty nice but nothing special but the second one is way better.

Hope I helped.
