3D Realms Anthology - Steam Edition is getting removed on December 31st.
Just so if you want to grab it, not all games can be bought individually, so this is very likely best deal you'll ever get for Steam versions.

Did you play these back in day?

Well, if they added cards to each game, I'd happily get it.

32 games, with 4 cards each and which you can sell for ~0,05€ makes at least 6,4€ you`re getting back... so what?

Actually I made a subtotal, because you can normaly sell every card for around 0,05€ (0.03) and 0,08€ (0.06) if its no free game. So I included the taxes. ;)

Well, the games would surely be for backlog just for the sake of collection, at least for me.

So, selling all cards would diminish the money spent, making it a bearable loss. Not to mention the possibility of getting boosters later. Xeeran got it!

Even the publisher would get a good additional sum in the end, as would Valve. And the badge collectors would be happy as well. Everybody wins.

Those won't even add to my nostalgia... apparently. I only played Duke Nukem 3D and Rise of the Triad from all those. Maybe Death Rally as well. And since I own the Megaton Edition of Duke Nukem... well, I wouldn't touch any of them.

This was posted almost a month ago, before that bundle was even available. I bought the bundle as soon as I could.

A commenter on youtube is saying:

gearbox now owns all the duke nukem games, so they need to re-release this anthology, i think

Sounds like it might ibe back without the Duke Nukem titles (which I already own anyway).

It's pretty sad that 3D Realms Anthology - Steam Edition is not the same with the better 3D Realms Anthology DRM-free on their official site (https://3drealms.com/catalog/3d-realms-anthology_50/). The Steam Edition is missing the great Wolfenstein 3D, Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy & Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons (included in Commander Keen Complete Pack) which seem to be sold separately by id Software. Those 3 missing games in Steam version is replaced by Ball of Steel, Dark Ages and Xenophage (which not as great as Commander Keen Complete and Wolfenstein 3D)

So you have to buy Wolfenstein and Commander Keen separately to have the full Anthology...

Oh, sad to hear that.
But I bought it already, because I played a lot of those games in the 90s and none were legit copies ;-) so even just as an atonement I had to buy this. Not to mention that revisiting some games after some 18 years brings a lot of accompanying memories I completely forgot about.

Atoning for past sin, eh?

Well I did as well, for many titles. Feels good.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 11 and Diablo 2 are perfect examples. Was too poor to buy things, but now I have excess money to spend... so yeah.

quake 3 was a big one for me... id software's authentication servers was down for over a year and anyone with a crack copy could play online, then one day it went back up and I had to actually.... buy the game to keep playing online

I spent so much time with most of these back in the 90's. And I'm not just talking about the shareware episodes that were spread around like mad back in those days.

I'm curious how well some of these have aged, guess I might have to get this and find out...

Fucking copyrights always messing up stuff and getting games deleted/removed from stores. It's always about money, it's getting annoying.

i have the bundle, but why they removed this great bundle? o.O
I want more Dos games or classics on Steam!

I played many of those titles when they were released and I still have many of them in the oldskool carton boxes they were sold in.

Edit: Out of curiosity what happends to this collection when it's removed from Steam? Will it then also be removed from SG giveaway list?

Also when some games out of that collection get on the bundle list will the entire collection be put on the bundle list?

All being removed like that means is it will no longer have a store page or be able to be bought from the Steam store.
Gifts still exist, games in your library still download and work.

Thank you and so they (removed games) can still be gifted on SG at a later date?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, game gifts in your inventory have never had an expiration date or problem being gifted.
Some removed games' gifts have increased in value due to rarity.

No problem!

Note: since SG giveaway-list takes their data straight from Steam, if this collection disappears SG might lose ability to create giveaways.

Like for example Mafia games.

Eh I would jump on this kind of thing before but now I ask myself "will I play it anytime soon" and considering that the answer is no in 90% of cases....

"Buy now for a limited time, this package disappears January 1st 2016."

Why is it going to be removed?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Most probably because of copyright issues as I hear that Gearbox now owns all rights of the Duke Nukem games.

Will the games be coming back then?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No easy answer and no official answer from both sides to date.

The thing is that 3D realms lost the Duke Nukem IP to Gearbox.

If 3D Realms should re-release the 3D Realms Anthology on Steam again at a later date then for copyright purposes it will be without the Duke Nukem IP (in other words a repacked Anthology) one could think.

I'm struggling a bit to decide if this is worth it. I'm sure a lot of these games were really awesome back in the day but the only one I ever played was Duke Nukem 3D and I already own that. It's definitely a good deal, but I know I won't play any of these any time soon, I wonder if I'll ever even get around to the rest...

Would love to ask for a refund but I bought this as a gift (it's in my inventory) along with other three games and I always get an "Invalid transaction" when trying to refund.

Oddly, the refund does work for all the other games I purchased in the same order, it only fails for this particular one. WTF?!?

Never done a refund before, but this will be my first. Will be buying the bundle as soon as I get my refund.

Nah, no point in that pack for me, maybe will check couple of remained games separately
