Free Game when Greenlit

It does happen however it's considered EXTRA HERETICAL to do so with any respectable member of the community.

There are also a few cases where people come on and cry cause they haven't been given a free game for their participation of the abuse of the Steam Greenlight system. The whole process is actually against Greenlight Terms of Service, but at the same time Valve are unwilling to clamp down on while they provide the means for people to exploit it. A rather bizarre situation all round.

I remember one developer for a game I can't remember that changed the "this game will be free for all on Steam if greenlit" to "nope, you will have to pay for it now" when reached the votes he wanted. Many fall for the "free" before it was changed, but few noticed that and changed their vote to "No". If someone remember the game, please tell... After that, I don't know if eventually that game got greenlit.

You mean like the Grass Simulator devs that used ppl to make their game greenlit, and now their game will be free to play, I guess game was planned to be f2p from the start, but they liked to make "vote and get it for free if its greenlit" before revealing it.

I voted for games that gave keys for everyone, now if you look on Whos Gaming Now some devs of Greenlight games became greedy, and they give only 100-300 keys for voting, and thousands of ppl vote, and less than 5% gets the game, so they just use that 95% of ppl.

When all is done correctly keys for every voter its fine, even if game is bad, but lots of devs tried to throw away as much ppl as they could, like making new requirements when not a lot of ppl see it, etc.

I have to say I join some of those stuff. But I don't vote, I simply join their group(or whatever method they are using) and hope for the best.
I only vote those that I believe it has potential. The rest, meh, but free cards!

I got a game doing that so I say at least some keep there word on that kind of stuff.

i got lots of keys from those greelight titles. i really don't keep track of wich games i've upvoted but every now and then a key drops in my email.

I have received key from EVERY developer that promised FREE Steam keys.

I do keep a list of promised keys. I don't include the raffles. So far everyone has come through with a key. There's a lot currently lit, but not on steam yet. So we'll see if the trend continues.

Only problems I've seen have been with a few bundled games, where the dev argues they didn't promise keys or changed the name of the game.

that is just a trick ...

Don't forget all the devs that promise key for bundles and then decide it don't worth it when it's greenlit.

Not really swayed by freebies in that sense and the one thing I did vote on with a freebie hasn't come out on steam yet, but the freebie is just a nice extra and not the main reason why I voted.

I've received quite a few if not all of them so far. Mainly the ones that have their own group or go through WGN.

I've got more of the 'greenlight promos' than the ones promised by bundles. Aside from that, there is only one that I can remember that promised and didn't deliver, and that's Forsaken Uprising. I voted and joined their group and not long before they released on Steam I was inexplicably kicked from their group and of course couldn't rejoin. I tried sending an email asking what happened but have received no reply.

Blob from Space would have been another, I emailed the dev though why asking they were charging for the game (it was supposed to be F2P), and he said they didn't get through greenlight and had to find a publisher, therefore they are charging for it. I personally accepted that, he said all the greenlight supporters would still get free DLC, as promised, and that they wanted that DLC to be good so it wasn't released on day 1. I ended up getting a key through WGN anyway though, so that was nice.

Why I vote? If I see potential in a game, I usually vote yes anyway, whether there's an incentive or not. Secondly, I believe that no matter how crappy a game may look, someone put their hard work into it, and spent money putting it on Greenlight in hopes of getting their game out to the world. I'm all for freedom of choice, and if you don't like a game, just don't buy it. I see people complain about the quality of games getting through, but really, there are reviews and even demos for most games, I really see no reason to complain.
