Wrong, I gave away my Crazy Machines games before they were bundled and my CV still dropped, so yeah, SG is a fail in the CV system.
Comment has been collapsed.
I did get CV at first, so if they were bundled, why didn't they give 0CV at first and only after a few weeks later they dropped.
Comment has been collapsed.
I did read it, a few times actually, as I always do so I won't have any mistakes and if I do, I edit them.
Comment has been collapsed.
I am not complaining, I don't actually care, it's just money, money comes money goes, it's just a fail. You may say it's not but it'll not change my opinion.
Comment has been collapsed.
Do you even understand the meaning of the word "retroactively"? It's not a fail whatsoever. Are you young, or just dumb?
Comment has been collapsed.
Please read the whole converstation before you comment..
Comment has been collapsed.
On top of that, read what I said was a fail, it seems you simply cannot read.
Comment has been collapsed.
I read what you commented. You're still wrong in stating it's a fail in any way whatsoever. It works entirely as intended, and the intent is entirely fair and honest, and logical.
Comment has been collapsed.
Let's just say everybody has their own opinion in every matter, you have yours I have mine.
Comment has been collapsed.
You bought Crazy Machines in a bundle. It was added to the bundle list. Where is the fail exactly?
Comment has been collapsed.
The fail is that there's many bundles out there, game bundles, game packages (few games in a decent small price) Not all of them are added to the bundle list and are bundled so that you'll receive 0 CV from giving them away, they just bundled CM so that those who exploit the bundle is punished and their CV will drop, as they couldn't do it manually to each and one who exploits they did it to everyone. Best way to limit this is to give a limit of type of games you can give and so that the people won't exploit it.
Comment has been collapsed.
"Nearly" So not all of them, that's what you're saying right?
Comment has been collapsed.
We can only do the bundles we know about, obviously. However, I think we have them all, to be honest.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, I know that you can only bundle things that you are aware of but sometimes things slip but what's the different between a game package that contains several games for a cheaper price than all of them together to a bundle that does the same? Let's say you have a game package on sale of GTA complete, there are about 4-5 games in the package I am not sure since I didn't check. But that package doesn't get bundled and people do get CV for that, correct me if I'm worng. It's the same thing as if a few games are in a package and they are selling for cheap.
Comment has been collapsed.
There are many fixes but CG won't apply them to make it easier for all of us users.
Comment has been collapsed.
Please read what the subject is about before you post, thanks.
Comment has been collapsed.
No. This was a win for the CV system. CM was a bundled game that you tried to exploit and instead of being pleased for all the people whose days you brightened up by giving them Crazy Machines to, instead you're bitching about how your efforts to exploit the system got discovered and dealt with. Poor you. This is an arse about face approach to giving things away, and was dealt with in the least failworthy way I can imagine.
Comment has been collapsed.
I tried to exploit? Not really. I gave away a little to receive a little, that's how it works, no? Or should work I must say. I am not bitching as you clearly just post what you think without reading all my comments, have I ever said "No bring it back" or have I said, this is such bullshit? No I just think that the CV system is quite broken, yes, people may beg to differ, but that's my opinion. I don't really care about CV I just hate to see that these kind of things happen. I didn't exploit anything, I gave away something that I bought for others to get, as straight as it gets. I am not the one that gives away 500 copies to get over a 1,000 CV, now that is called exploiting. Bundles are the same as extreme sales starting at the 80% and to the 90-95% which are rare, yes. But it happens.
Comment has been collapsed.
You complained that it was a "fail" for the CV system when it was clearly a win.
Yes, there are occasionally extreme sales can be used to exploit this, but the Crazy Machines collection was clearly a bundle, was priced accordingly and was flagged accordingly. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, likelihood is it will make a good paté.
Comment has been collapsed.
"I gave away a little to receive a little, that's how it works, no?"
No. This is a site where people give things away. When you give something away, that means getting nothing in return. That attitude that people who make giveaways are supposed to receive something as compensation is one of the biggest problems in the community, actually.
Comment has been collapsed.
But the CV system is there to reward the people who giveaway, to make them feel like they aren't walking away with empty hands, right? That's why it was made for? I don't really know but it might be for that, if it was made for something else other than that please explain the reason why it's there.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, it was made to reward people who were already giving things away with no expectation of receiving anything, not as an incentive for people who wouldn't normally give things away to try and find as much free/highly discounted junk as they could to try and get value for little or no actual outlay of money to try and get access to rewards meant for people who were just being generous for its own sake instead of because they wanted to get something in return. If you want something in return for what you're giving away, you should try trading instead. Viewing giveaways as an investment is just not being good at math.
Comment has been collapsed.
As I said, I don't really care about my CV, it's there, it gives me to enter some giveaways of games which I would like, nice and thanks. As I said, I don't mind if my CV was dropped and I don't mind it being low or being there at all, if I can spare the money to buy something even if it's in a bundle or even if it's low on price and give it away, sweet, may the people who want it and can't or won't buy it enjoy the game as people are entering those giveaways. Yes I did gaveaway some games for rising my CV to enter some games I would like to have but are out of my CV limit, that's why most new people do it for, to enter those games they want but out of their range of CV. The CV system as said is there to reward the people who giveaway and you highlighted the word "already" so it exists to everyone, new or old member you have CV, so it will be balaced and for everyone so it will seem fair. The people who first started to giveaway didn't expect anything in retrun yet they did get the CV system which let them make giveaways to people who give games to the community and at their own price limit. Not everything that is in a bundle or on a high discount is junk, it's the developers choice to make those discounts or that he chooses to make it free for their own profit, some good games were higly discounted or given away in a bundle, doesn't make it junk, as people like and will play the game as it's fun but this is now off topic.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I don't mean to imply that all cheap/free games are bad. Mainly, I just want you to understand that giving away games for the sole purpose of acquiring value so that you can enter contributor giveaways is a bad investment, and that expecting something in return for your giveaways will likely be disappointing. You should only give if you want to anyway, without the expectation of any reward.
Comment has been collapsed.
I understad that and understood it before, CV is there to reward the people who giveaway without looking at their value, but let's be honest, most people use the CV to enter giveaways they cannot, most giveaways are 30.1+ which requires people to giveaway games to enter them, which forces them to do so since you want to enter them as some of the games you would like are given away only at 30.1+. I again don't care about my CV. Let's face it, it's there and people use it, some don't care that it's there, some do care. Most people use it to enter the giveaways they would like. I feel like I am repeating myself over and over again, so let's call it a night. You have your opinions I have mine. We would never know what each single user has in their mind about the CV and how they use it and why they use it. This website is mainly for "Have a spare game you don't need? Give it away so others may enjoy!" And I get it and agree on that, as it's how it should be.
Comment has been collapsed.
One last thing, can you reply your opinion about my comment to thejadefalcon about game packages and bundles - I would like to hear your opinion about that, if you can, of course.
Comment has been collapsed.
It seems like every day there is a new thread about how someone CV has dropped or how they didn't get the CV they deserve for the game they gave...
This is a giveaway site, you are supposed to come here and give away games and expect nothing else in return. It is crazy that people always complain about how they didn't get what they deserve when doing a giveaway.
If you are doing your giveaways to profit your own self then you should reevaluate your intentions. It is due to people like you that the CV was put in place in the first place.
Give away games for the sake of making someone else happy, that should be payment enough.
Comment has been collapsed.
Indeed it was, there was an official thread about it but I won't be digging for it to find it and post it. It was an exception because many people abused it and gained from 100$ to 1,000$ of CV and even more, as they couldn't slide through each member as choose weather or not decrease his value or not they did it to all of the users, therefore I call a fail, but many people won't agree, well, it's their opinion and they should stick with that. As I said, many fixes could be applied from abusing but they don't like to listen to feedback.
Comment has been collapsed.
QQ, who cares. CV means nothing when the site is for charitable reasons.
Comment has been collapsed.
Because when the value of a game drops you lose CV down to what the game is valued at now.
that and blundles will do that so far as I know.
Comment has been collapsed.
Price drops that affect the games "P" will lower CV.
However, giving away a game today that ends up in a bundle next month will not lower your CV. It will only affect giveaways from the bundle's start date onwards.

nope, i pay 350 a week rent to live in a shit 3 bedroom house, 1000+ 3 monthly power bill ect ect .... and earn about 400 - 500 a week. it's so expensive to live in this part of the world, while rest of the world think were all rich? i don't sell drugs (should do tho to make ends meet) but i wouldn't want to land in jail and miss my 2 girls growing up....
Comment has been collapsed.
Your minimum wage is also a fuckload higher, however, I believe. On top of that, there are different tax laws. Secondly $350 Australian dollars to live in a three bedroom house is quite a fucking good deal from the prices I've been hearing lately.
Comment has been collapsed.
So you're making double minimum wage here and paying half as much for rent and utilities, basically. Even with publishers (i.e., not Valve) colluding to make digital prices match physical prices to keep their profits high, having effectively four times as much as a rural American hardly seems worth complaining about.
Comment has been collapsed.
To be fair, Australian income tax is pretty oppressive (I think approaching 50%), and cost of living is on par with the most expensive cities in the US. So his disposable income is likely far lower than the gross figures he's quoting.
Comment has been collapsed.
Wait, so you make $1600-2000 a month, and pay $350 for rent, and you're complaining?
Even if you pay $1000 total for your rent+utils/bills that leaves you with a decent amount of spending money per month imo.
Comment has been collapsed.
My bad, I just don't usually see people post their weekly rent :) At least where I'm from it's always a monthly figure.
Comment has been collapsed.
Cry me a river.
Many of the games you've given away don't look like they were bought on Steam anyway (again, I could be wrong, but it's a fair assumption), so the likelihood is you took advantage of internationally priced deals (along with the rest of us).
Man up and stop moaning. It affects everyone, but you don't see 99% of the user base whinging about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
And that's why you're on a lot of people's blacklists.
Comment has been collapsed.
Most of them were bundle games or free, actually. You could probably have had them for half that or less. That will just about always be the case. That's why I advise people that it's a poor investment, because it is. You're better off just buying games yourself than trying to make giveaways.
Comment has been collapsed.
eh im glad people who could use the games got them i wouldnt have been able to use them anyways other then zenoclash which i rather wish i would have kept one for nestolgia reasons lol, but im sure it will come up for a dollar again soon
but ill admit lately i try to keep my giveaways at a high CV cuz i feel people who contribute do deserve them more then 0cv users.
Comment has been collapsed.
Honestly, in my opinion who cares why someone gives away free games. After all, they are giving away free games and that is all that matters. Not the reason why. :D
Unless of course they are abusing the contributor system.
Comment has been collapsed.
We don't have the resources available to track every price cut and update the site to keep the gifts from before that cut registered while lowering it for the ones afterwards. While we could, theoretically do this, every time it has been discussed, there are far more pressing issues to deal with.
Comment has been collapsed.
I guess this wouldn't be that hard to implement, but very expensive performance-wise.
If you think steamgifts is laggy/down often, implementing this would further compound the issue.
To do so replace the price attribute being used with a new table Prices.
Prices would consist of a priceId, gameID, price, dateStart, dateEnd where dateEnd has a special value NULL representing the current price.
Whenever prices should be updated (lets say every night) a process will fetch the latest list price from steam and if theres a change in list price, (this shouldn't take that long as Steam only has so many games/dlc's) invalidate the old price, by updating the null value to the current time, and inserting a separate row with everything filled out except dateEnd.
But this would be very expensive to implement, as it requires a new join every time a particular game is looked up. When calculating someones CV, you'd need to take every game they ever gave away and join it with the new prices table.
Comment has been collapsed.
And God forbid there's a price error at the same time someone creates a giveaway, or the giveaway ends, or whatever time is used as the determining time for choosing the value (which is another problem in itself). I can only imagine the flood of tickets if there had been several people with Sleeping Dogs giveaways back when it dropped to a few dollars on Steam briefly, never mind the people who might have tried to make giveaways using the cheaply bought ones to try and slip in with the flood of people demanding value adjustments in order to exploit the error, and so on. Basically the whole idea becomes a nightmare if you try to put it into practice, and there just hasn't been time to try and devise a system that could work that way without causing more problems than it solves, and nothing obvious presents itself.
Comment has been collapsed.
Help me out here. I don't see how this would really affect anyone but people who have a habit of buying games just as the price drops in order to post them up for a significant CV increase compared to what they spent? Or people who buy lots of cheap bundle games to do the same?
Comment has been collapsed.
Here's some possible answers from my point of view, as a gifter, not a mod.
Those are the categories I see most of these threads fit into. There's a few others, but those are mostly the ones.
Comment has been collapsed.
And this is one of the biggest reasons the contributor system needs to go. I get so fed up with people looking at it and thinking that making a giveaway is some kind of investment, or that they're owed something for it, and always trying to find ways to exploit it. I firmly believe that most of the worst elements in the community would largely disappear in its absence.
Comment has been collapsed.
technically having high CV is an investment, a game you want goes up for 250cv and that mans maybe 200-400 people will probly enter it, thats a way better chance then if thousands joined it... you invest in better chances,
i dont care about winning games personally i dont game very often now days, but having a better chance by being able to join a high CV giveaway with few people entered..... its a nice feeling to know your chances are a tad miniscule better

No. Investing is when you put something of worth into a venture expecting to receive something of equal or greater worth, i.e., profit. If you think making giveaways is a profitable business venture, then you lack even the most basic understanding of business practices and should not be trusted with any significant amount of money or even major personal financial decisions. I hope for your sake you're still a kid. This is the kind of mindset that leads people to throw away money on things like lottery tickets.
Comment has been collapsed.
lol dont worry bro i have no money xD never have before, im 25 years old, have lived wit hparents my whole life and never once had a job or an income before, heck i leave the house maybe once a month if lucky. dont worry i have no minor or significant amount of money xD
even if i had money i would never use it on lottery tickets, that would be silly (first world problems lol)

Well, maybe take a class on managing your personal finances or something? There's probably one for free somewhere nearby. I don't know if you have a college or something nearby, but there's probably a class or seminar available to you for free. It couldn't hurt, and it might be helpful to you in the future.
Comment has been collapsed.
i will admit and say your wisdom and worry is well appreciated, but at this point in my life i cant see a class on that being useful ive never had money or earned nay before to manage anything lol shrugs
and to be honest after my parents pass i planed on being a nomad and just walking and roaming the USA with nothing but a backpack and a change of clothing, i wont be a hobo or a homeless person since ill be always on the move so i rather be called a nomad lol...sadly and regrettably thats like my only dream in life

Well, if that's really what you want, then what's stopping you from getting a head start right now? Don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying you should do that. I just think maybe you'd like more than that, but you perhaps don't think you can do better, or that it would be too hard. Otherwise, I don't see why you would wait if that's really what you want to do.
