It's even funnier to image that the customer support guy was fucking with you and livens up his own day by intentionally giving ridiculous advice and asinine solutions.

I don't have screenshots, only logs. Anyways, here goes:
Shashank: I'll do my best to fix this for you.
you: thank you
Shashank: I would recommend you to please visit this link and perform the steps : https://help.ea.com/article/Release-Date-Check-Issues
you: disabled the firewall to make sure that's not blocking anything
you: no change to see in Origin
Shashank: Have you performed the steps correct?
you: well, while we're chatting here I'm sure you're not gonna ask me to reconnect my ethernet cable and reboot my router to make sure I have internet connection are you?
Shashank: I am just asking that have you performed the steps or not that's it.?
you: I did not reboot my router, if you're in doubt
you: I did disable my firewall though
Shashank: Okay.
Shashank: Would you mind holding for a couple of minutes while I fetch some relevant information?
you: I'll wait right here

Yes live chat with Origin is actually better than Steam support which can take upwards of a week to respond.. (and the first Steam support response is almost always a bot response.. you have to keep replying before they send a real person to view your ticket). yes there is a negative attitude toward Origin chat support (we've all seen the funny screenshots) but generally it is pretty good. I've only used it once and they helped me out fast and I received a replacement key for a game I lost.
A majority of the people who hate on Origin livechat are probably bandwagoning and haven't even used it themselves.

A friend of mine had a problem while buying a game on Steam, after he had paid the game didn't arrive on his library... Passed more than a week after his support request before the game appeared on the list, and that happened even before their answer.....

Yeah, had to use them once. Best Buy was suppose to Email me the Spect Act kit code for pre ordering BF3 with them, but they didn't. So i used their live contact service. Gave me a Spect Act code right away after telling them that Best Buy never sent me my code.
2 weeks after release stupid ass best buy sends me the email with the code -_-

when i used origin live chat, i was trying to add MOH: Airborn, and it wasnt working...
and they still couldnt get it to work....
so you know what they did? they went ahead and gave me the newest medal of honor, the one that was in the origin bundle, for free....

i had to call them about crysis and they took awhile to figure out what was going wrong but eventually they got it all working and were extremely nice about it. the only problem was that they said they were going to give me some coupon codes and they did, but they were ALL invalid lol

Unlike other game devs they actually made their own system. I haven't heard of a single case of wrong banning. I have heard stories of people claiming it was an unjust ban, but then they almost always say "I share the account with my bro" or "I gave my account to a friend" or "I only wallhacked like 6 months ago"

well EA is a corporation with many different people doing many different jobs and chances are that there is atleast one guy hired there capable of doing his job properly without bullshit that earned EA its reputation.

I'm getting sick of this "Wow, EA did a Humble Bundle and they are the best company in the world". They are still the same bastards who don't give a shit about their customers. The only reason they did the humble bundle is because they wanted more users on their stupid spyware Origin. Wake up and stop lying to yourselves.

This is the stupidest thing I've read today. And I've read a lot of things.

My experiences with steam support have been just an average mass-client auto-responder affair.
My only real bone to pick was when the original Realtime Worlds version of All Points Bulletin died after a measly few months after launch, and Steam refused to offer a refund. There was a conflict of interests there. The EA-footed game was offered through Steam, and when asked for a refund or exchange, each of them said "It's the other companies fault, not ours". They passed the buck, I got nothing but a dead downloadable. I mean, sure, EA offered a TRADE if you originally bought it through their site back then, but still~

Dunno about that, I pre-ordered Alpha Protocol back it first appeared on Steam but I never asked for a refund after they removed it from the store because I actually wanted it.
Although there are plenty of cases out there being powerhappy, contradictory, vindictive and generally a bunch of assholes my own experiences are mostly related to having to ask the same question 3-5 times before they stop sending my unrelated copy-pastes from the SSA.
The only time I got truly upset with them was when I purchased an item was supposed to do something according to the official FAQ Steam had put out but didn't and they then changed the FAQ to reflect the reality I contacted Support for a refund, after 3 weeks of trying to get in contact with a human being I got the Apple "We've given you a refund but this is a one time thing, we don't give refunds etc etc..." reply. I felt obliged to respond to them with links to various consumer protection laws and the whole selling stuff under false pretense so they hopefully they could understand that no, this wasn't them being nice, they were legally required to offer me a refund.

Alpha Protocol? I was talking about All Points Bulletin. I- wait, Alpha Protocol wasn't removed from the store, that was probably slip of your mind.
Yeah but, I liked APB too, and yet a 3-month period is a ludicrously short lifespan for a game that asks for a subscription AND required a purchase of the game too. They offered no offline mode to compensate and there were efforts to shut down unofficial servers shortly after they sprang up. As much as I enjoyed the product, having its lifespan cut incredibly short like that kind of directly encroaches upon the premise of offering an access license at the same price as a full-priced game. There wasn't even a partial refund to reflect the scale of it's lifespan. All I have to show for that purchase is a permanent lease of the lowest base shotgun, and that one time offer of copying my outfits and symbol inventory across from the old server (while losing everything else, included the old preorder bonuses, and one of the character's names).
I dunno, that's a real bitter taste in my mouth. I can understand EA not wanting to refund the full cost given Steam would have subtracted a slice for their advertisement and distribution, but it's still a pretty big middle finger for supporting a product with a preorder and keeping up the subscription. :/

I know you were, I was using Alpha Protocol as an example of the closest I had gotten to the scenario you describe. AP was put on Steam for pre-order, then ran into production trouble and was removed from the steam store for about 6 months or so before being put back up for pre-order.

Steam probably has 10x the user base of Origin. Can you imagine the backlog of about 1 million tickets (approx) compared to 100K for Origin? Im not favouring any particular platform but this has to be taken into consideration.

Writes a ticket to steam support... wait... wait... wait... get bored waiting... close ticket... find solution myself.
That's how I use steam support. :D
