Buying a game just for the 1x use cards it drops seems like a waste.
imo

Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not for sale! My cards didn't show up and then one of them sold so just wait

That also happens to me. 3 auctions missing, 1 sold, 2 unsold wayyy below selling price. This is frustrating :(

Yes the lag theory seems to playing out now, I've just made 3 sales.
Problem is knowing how long before things actually go on and guessing the price at that time.
Like I said in an other part of the thread I've had a listing in the ghost state for days before so I don't know you can assume it will definitely get listed eventually or not. Valve have probably made some changes since that happened to me though.

Would help if the stuff I was trying to put up in the market would actually go up properly, if anything, but... in time, I guess. Hopefully tomorrow morning it'll be running properly again

Don't think I'll be buying any (trying very hard to keep away from all the badge/card nonsense), but thank you for the post!
Good for pondering potential profits as well, but I don't think I'll bother -- I assume I'll eventually come to own most of those games through bundles anyway.

I can't even list the cards before the prices drop to extreme low.

Is that really how it's working now? That might be how Kyle sold one.
I know in the past I've had a ghost listing up for days before I noticed. That time it made me money because I removed and sold for a much higher price than what I'd originally listed for.

Cheaper Jagged Alliance - Back in Action for europeans at least.

Oh no, someone's undercutting my price for a Zack Zero card; I wonder who?

You're doing what Steam wants you to do.Buying games that you normally woldn't buy, just to get cards.I WON'T BE A PART OF THIS, DO YOU HEAR ME GABE ?! I WON'T BE A PART OF THIS !!

Damn I just bought 4 of them.Well, if I get a foil I'll make profit !

Is there any way to "trick" Steam into thinking that you're playing another game? (one that you own in your library) I'm talking about Source Engine games, I only have a 5 gig cap this month, so downloading all of them won't be possible. I already have TF2 and Half Life installed, I want to get Portal and Left 4 Dead later. Can I do something with the exe's to make Steam think I'm playing a different game?

Yup, get Steam Achievement Manager (free tiny download), open the game you want to get cards for, and just leave the window with the list of achievements open. Steam can't tell the difference between idling in Steam Achievement Manager and idling in the actual game, so you'll get the drops.

As far as I know, no one's ever been VAC banned because of SAM. That said, traditionally, if you mention it on the Steam forums, your post will be deleted. Also, it's not recommended to run a VAC-bannable game at the same time as running SAM. The only time I've actually used it was to reverse achievements that I unintentionally got through someone else's savegame for Cogs.

Yeah I did think about using to remove achievements. I copied SMB and BoI to a friends HD rather than downloading, but for some messed up reason the save files are in the games directory and it auto-gave all the achieves. :(
I'd still rather not touch it though, even on an account less important than my own. :P

Impossible because Valve originally didn't design Steam achievements to have any sort of security on their end. Your client just marks the achievement as finished when certain triggers in the game are achieved and then it lets Valve's servers know, who have no way of doublechecking or verifying it, so your online profile just automatically has it added.
They eventually did enhance the Steamworks API to allow for dedicated servers that act as a middleman for achievement authentication, but very few developers bother. It's really only in the case of online-only games, the first of which I believe was Spiral Knights.

It's no different from, say, running TF2 in text-only to get drops. The only thing you're getting is added playtime, which takes an equal amount of skill and effort as just letting the game sit on the main menu. The only difference between downloading the game and running it and downloading SAM and running it is that one takes up less bandwidth to download and less resources to run.
I don't like people who use SAM to just unlock swaths of achievements to massage their ego, but this use of it isn't particularly reprehensible. It's like a knife: you can use it to slice vegetables or stab people, but the knife isn't inherently a bad thing. It's a tool that has right and wrong uses. Using SAM for things like this, or say to unlock an achievement that a bug prevented you from getting after you legitimately accomplished the conditions, are acceptable uses of the tool.

I'm almost tempted to use it for Magicka, since Magicka no longer runs on my PC. Game is so badly coded that I get around four seconds of lag on the starting menu. (I used to be able to play it, but after more DLC was added, it became impossibly laggy. Cripples my entire system if it is running.)

Is anyone actually buying Zack Zero cards? I imagine they (and all other cards) will be undercut into oblivion before a crafter happens to come along and buy them up xP

Only main game I really want on the list is Triple Town, so that'll be the only one I might buy, although I might swing some of my card money to get McPixel, Strike Suit Infinity, Blocks that Matter, and Hotline Miami. Who knows, I might also finally complete a badge--- Binding of Isaac :P
Also lol at all the people that bought Zack Zero and couldn't turn a profit and are left with a game they never would ever want!

Here they are, along with how many cards they drop and current approximate market value per card as of the time I created this post (US Store and USD in market). The price listed is the sell price, however, not what you actually make. I've bolded the games that are nearly free, though card values will drop when word spreads.
A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda: $2.49 - 75% off (3 cards $0.50 each)
Blocks That Matter: **$1.24 - 75% off (3 cards $0.40 each)
Dungeons of Dredmor: $1.24 - 75% off (3 cards ~$0.30 each)
Go Home Dinosaurs!: $2.49 - 75% off (4 cards $0.60 each)**
Hotline Miami: $2.49 - 75% off (3 cards $0.40 each)
Ion Assault: $2.49 - 75% off (3 cards $0.50 each)
Jagged Alliance - Back in Action: $7.49 - 75% off (3 cards $0.70 each)
McPixel: $0.99 - 80% off (7 cards ~$0.15 each)
Stellar Impact: $2.49 - 75% off (3 cards $0.35 each)
Strike Suit Infinity: $1.74 - 75% off (3 cards $0.30 each)
They Bleed Pixels: $2.49 - 75% off (4 cards $0.50 each)
Triple Town: $3.99 - 60% off (6 cards $0.55 each)
Zack Zero: $2.99 - 70% off (3 cards ~$0.90 each)
Zombie Driver HD: $2.49 - 75% off (3 cards ~$0.60 each)
Since most of these are 75% off, they're unlikely to go lower during the sale, but I can't predict the future.
If I've missed any, please let me know. Do me a favor and format it for easy adding :)
Also if any of these are significantly cheaper in another region, chime in so friends can hook each other up.
