I enjoyed dishonored series and shadow of mordor and war, although it's just 2 games. There's also dark souls but some find them more enjoyable than others

Andromeda is a spin off and set in the same universe. There's pretty much no connection to the ME trilogy.
"In contrast to the original Mass Effect trilogy, which was spearheaded by BioWare's Edmonton studio, Mass Effect: Andromeda was handled by a new team out of Montreal."
Comment has been collapsed.
I suppose it depends on how you define a trilogy. If a series has three games but then gets a standalone reboot years later, does that mean it's a tetralogy despite one game having no connection to the rest?
The first three Mass Effects are directly connected, so much that their remasters have been combined into a single package (Legendary Edition).
Andromeda uses the IP but it's almost entirely standalone. The entirety of the plot and characters from the others are ignored, and it takes place in a different galaxy.

+1 for Mass Effect Trilogy if you havent played it. Brilliant game.
Ive played thought the whol story several times. Recently finished the legendary edition and still one of my favorite games.

I'd have to look up more about half life.. looks like they tried to make a trilogy out of the episodes but canceled the third. Does it connect to the first directly?
I played the original half life when it came out .. but I couldn't tell you much about it today or the sequels lol

Classic stalkers games, these 3 provided me with a great immersion in the story and mechanics

Yes, just like Mayanaise said
stalker shadow of chernobyl

stalker call of pripyat

There's also Stalker 2, but I haven't had the chance to play it yet. I don't know much about the story or if it's a direct sequel to the classics; I hope to be able to buy it someday.

It's not, Stalker 2 plays in the same universe but isn't connected to the original trilogy story wise. The more I play Stalker 2 the more I think you're better off playing a mod of the originals like Gamma or Anomaly.
My overall positive review of Stalker 2 is certainly influenced by the fact I got it for free due to an anomaly :)

Anomaly game is really good, I was playing it the other day. This anomaly with stalker2 is also good, I want to find it to get this artifact 😂

The protagonists from the first three games are significant characters in 2.

Prince of Persia. Only the first three games, the true trilogy. The rest are spin-offs

LOL. The trilogy starting with sands of time, I meant
Comment has been collapsed.
Forgotten sands came many years later after the trilogy was concluded. I simply ignore it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Just because you turn a blind eye to the game doesn't make it any less of a game. And it's not as bad as you think. And let's be honest, there's only one Sands of Time game, so either there's only Sands of Time or ALL the games in the series.
Comment has been collapsed.
From what I remember they either acquired the rights after the original publisher went belly up or actually absorbed the entire publisher, one of the two. They did bring the original developer that created the series on board for the reboot tho, but I think he didn't stick around for the sequels.

Sands of Time, , Warrior Within, Two Thrones
You are mistaking it with The forgotten Sands, which came many years later as a 4th episode between sands of time and warrior within
Comment has been collapsed.
I checked wikipedia and the list there actually puts Sands of Time as the fifth game in the series, I forgot Harem Adventures despite the fact that I actually played that one. Meanwhile Forgotten Sands is like the tenth (the fact that some of the games change name depending on the platform is so confusing).
Comment has been collapsed.
There's the trilogy starting with Sands of Time too, there's a non-zero chance they are thinking of these and not the onws from 1989

I think the other 2 Witchers are still great.
I once wanted to play Witcher 3 but I'm a bit weird, so I first read all the books, then played Witcher 1 and 2 and only then I could start the third :) I'm absolutely happy that I did it that way.

The Rocksteady Batman Trilogy: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and Arkham Knight.
Sure, there was a prequel (Arkham Origins) and a semi-sequel (Gotham Knights), but since they were both made by a distinct studio and did not feature Kevin Conroy's iconic voice as Batman/Bruce Wayne, I don't count them as part of the core trilogy.

Otherwise known as Suicide Squad Kills the Franchise, because that's pretty much what that game did!

I have never seen the opinion that StarCraft is a trilogy, just as I have never seen the opinion that StarCraft 1 and Broodwar are a duology. Overall, I see the logic here.
However, with this approach, we could consider the series a PENTAlogy, since all three StarCraft 2 campaigns were released as independent sequels and, at the time of release, could be purchased and played even separately from each other.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well each Starcraft expansion was supposed to separately theme and expound upon each of the 3 races, protoss, zerg, and human.
But there was some overlap between the final expansion and Starcraft 2, so i'm assuming someone had the brilliant idea, to just dovetail it all into SC2, and be way ahead of any deadline for making the first expansion for SC2.
But you're right, it's not technically the part 3 we'd been looking forward to after Broodwar.
Just where the spirit of part 3 went, and what they could afford to develop and produce afterwards before interest got watered down.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, of course, this series is full of sequels, prequels, and spin-offs, but at the same time, this trilogy can be considered as a completed work in its own right: first three original Resident Evil games. You never can't go wrong with this one.
Comment has been collapsed.
1) Now that Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2 are remastered, I recommend them both, along with Legacy of Kain: Defiance.
Afterwards you can grab Blood Omen 2 for some more fun. Not part of the trilogy but adds some more depth to the story.
2) Dead Space 1, 2 and 3. Many hate on 3 but its great imo.
3) Max Payne Trilogy
4) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1, 2 and 3. The original Soap trilogy is still the pinnacle of the series.
5) Lastly if you don't mind older games. The Hitman Trilogy. You can skip Codename 47 as it may require some getting into and Hitman: Contracts remasters a lot of the levels. So play Silent Assassin, Contracts and Blood Money

The original three games are
Trails in the Sky FC
Trails in the Sky SC
Trails in the Sky the 3rd
Those games where released on PC (are here on steam https://store.steampowered.com/app/251150/The_Legend_of_Heroes_Trails_in_the_Sky/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/436670/The_Legend_of_Heroes_Trails_in_the_Sky_the_3rd/)
The three games have a Japanese exclusive improved edition that was released for Playstation Vita called Evolution.
And now they are remaking the first two games witch can be found here in steam (we don't know if they will remake the third one yet)

I suppose you are already too familiar with these, but still wanted to mention them as I know you to be fond of RTS games (Age of Mythology):
Red Alert (2 especially with Yuri's Revenge DLC)
Desperados (without Helldorado)
Adding just Shenmue here as a trilogy, before or if there will come fourth game.

crazy, I just checked amazon here and they're ridiculously priced for 1 and 3 don't see 2
Comment has been collapsed.
That's crazy lol. You can get them for less than $10 each on eBay in the US shipped.
I assume shipping to Canada will be around $20-$30 for each item. That would likely be just for the jewel cases. The small cardboard boxes or the big versions will run a lot more especially sealed new. Out of production for over 20 years a lot of things happened to them, trashed, boxes thrown away to minimize space, and then eventually cd's lost, broken, left in the sun, etc.

To echo some others, for me it's:
Batman Arkham Games - https://store.steampowered.com/sub/320795/
Bioshock Trilogy - https://store.steampowered.com/sub/127633/
Assassins Creed Ezio Games - 2, Brotherhood, Revelations

Bioshock, 1 and Infinite are great at least... need to get a steam copy of 2 or get my 360 from family members house and play it... dunno if I want to play something like that on a CRT though in the modern times.
Halo... technically there is more than 3... but the first 3 are the great games. Reach is supposedly good to, bonus is that its all contained in the master chief collection.

PS2 is the only platform to enjoy the trilogy as TS1 is PS exclusive. They have a PS2 on PS4 release with trophies and such.
TSRewind I think has TS1 content right now on PC

Maybe the Darksiders trilogy? The three main games stories all overlap directly (they happen simultaneously in different parts of the world) iirc.

Had to think for a while because most of the games I wanted to suggest either aren't really trilogies or I have yet to play one of the three, so I'm gonna go with the first Crystal Dynamics trilogy of Tomb Raider games (Legend, Anniversary, Underworld) cos I just love those three, specially Anniversary, and they do have a continuous plot between the three even if it's out of order.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, there's a lot of Tomb Raider games and I think many skipped the second era, it didn't help that when they rebooted the series for the second time LAU Lara got relegated to spin-offs so half of the games in that continuity aren't even called Tomb Raider and instead titled Lara Croft.
Looking forward to how on earth they're gonna merge all three continuities into one with the two new games since they announced they were unifying everything, all three Laras have conflicting backstories and to some extent different personalities.

Hello.
Hmm, a game trilogy?
How about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series — the original one, not the remastered version.
And even though it’s already been mentioned a few times, I’ll add it too: the Assassin’s Creed Ezio Trilogy (my all-time favorite).
I’d also mention the Metro, Mafia and Life is Strange games.
edit: maybe Kingdom Come: Deliverance I & II (it’s not a trilogy, but it still deserves to be mentioned)

Mortal Kombat has a pretty in-depth story, but it's so confusing that most players have no clue of what's going on, kind of a common issue with fighting games in general where they go balls to walls with dozens of characters with intertwined plots, but MK is particularly indulgent in general weirdness with the fact that characters can die and be brought back from the death, various parallel dimensions, a bunch of gods, and reboots that are actually time travel or something like that. Let's say that it makes me appreciate the fact that other fighting game series had the common sense to break their plots into sagas or separate continuities when things got too complicated, kinda like how SNK kept Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting separate from the King of Fighters continuity so they could rearrange the timeline so the characters' ages can make sense, and for Geese Howard to not be dead.
Comment has been collapsed.
I mean, if you bring up Mortal Kombat, do we also include the Tekken series? That has continuing story between the games. So twisted up. But I enjoyed the story gleaned from intro and endings between 1 and 2. I don't recall clearly enough for 3, 4 and...uh...tag? 5? But then it's on 8 or something so...trilogy gone mad with resurrection! The story-so-far on the trailers for the last I saw were so confusing.

Just looking for some game series ideas, if you know of a game series trilogy that is just something that you can think back to fondly, or nails the story and continuity throughout the series.. please share your thoughts! There is no GA in this post, but doesn't mean there won't be a GA :)
My only request is that suggestions are a trilogy (max) with connected story arcs, not just the same universe.
Thanks :)
GA Deadline Expired 2026-01-09, but please feel free to continue the conversation.
