It's been a long few months, the weekend is finally here! The new cars look fantastic on track, can't wait to see them in qualifying trim. If I had to put my money on a race winner right on this moment, I'd probably pick Vettel. Ferrari and Mercedes look like the top two contenders but I also expect Red Bulls to be close, the alleged power deficit with their Renault engines shouldn't be such a big disadvantage on a track like Melbourne.
P.S. If we're going to do our predictions before qualifying, I'm going to wait and see until I've seen tomorrow's practice sessions. ;)

I really fancy Ferrari to be in their best position for like 5 years. That said, I reckon they might end up having some reliability problems if they have improved to the level of mercedes.
I'd be going for Hamilton, Vettel, Ricciardo, though I would also like Verstappen to do well, as a half Dutch, but kinda worried he'll crash while trying to overtake someone

I think Bottas will be a flop despite having the best car, and I hate Verstappen (no offence meant to his fans), so I'm not going to nominate him.
This season is also the first since 1992 when I won't be rooting for a specific driver. With Button gone, I just can't find anyone likeable enough to root for. :/

I kinda feel like Hamilton is playing up the threat of Ferrari just to drum up media attention and Mercedes will run away with it again. As for the season itself, I'm excited, but if the design of the new cars make it too difficult to overtake, it's going to get boring fast. Wider cars on narrow tracks like Monaco? Snore.

Australian Grand Prix
I've been having fun creating cycling prediction events and with the new Formula One season starting this weekend it seemed fun to do events for that as well.
How it works
Predicting the winner would be much too easy in a field of twenty where only six drivers (if that) will likely contest most wins. To make things more interesting you will have to predict the top three finishers in the correct order and do so before the start of the qualifying session on Saturday.
Once the season has finished I will create a special winner's train event for everyone who correctly predicted a race. There's twenty races this season so twenty opportunities to get it right. Once the season is over I will create a new thread to remind the winners so they can get their entry into the train.
Race Preview
The first race of the season; everyone starts fresh and no one really knows what the teams are capable of. The 'winter' tests ended just last week and Ferrari showed good speeds and had everyone talking. All the cars got a little wider which means there will be fewer overtaking opportunities which is a shame.
Realistically there are only three teams that will be fighting for race wins, most F1 followers put them in this order for 2017:
I won't be posting my own prediction for the other races of the season but as this is the first one here's what I think:
