First of all let me say that it is my first discussion, so forgive me if I have put it in the wrong category.

I noticed that if an ongoing giveaway is deleted the points will be reimbursed, so I was wondering if this is the same for giveaways that have previously ended.

Edit: Thanks for Kappaking for letting me know about the formatting, as I am not familiar I will just do some trail and error so please bear with any mistakes. Thank all of you for taking the time and participation here is a Little something

Your points are only refunded if the giveaway is canceled or you withdraw your entry before the giveaway ends. The idea behind the points is that you spend them for the chance to win at a giveaway. Thus, when a giveaway is successfully completed--even if you were not the winner-- you don't get your points back. But, should the giveaway be canceled, you are reimbursed your points because that chance to win was now revoked.

Hope that helps and welcome to SG!

Are you sure about that? I was always under the impression that all giveaways deleted returned points no matter when they are deleted. Everything I have read in the past just said if a giveaway is deleted, the points will be returned. I have never read anything that said that the giveaway has to be deleted before it ends to get points back.

Here is a comment from CG (the owner of the site) where he says that he thinks points should be returned if a giveaway is deleted after it ends. I don't know what he ended up deciding on, but I always thought points were returned for all deleted giveaways.

If the key was invalid or already used, there was never a game to be given away, so it was essential a fake giveaway because there is no prize and the points should be returned. It would be like if you paid real money to buy a raffle ticket to win a car and then after the raffle ended, everyone found out that the car does not exist for some reason. That would be considered a scam and the money would have to be returned to the people that bought raffle tickets because they were cheated.

Are you talking about the first sentence? "Your points are only refunded if the giveaway is canceled or you withdraw your entry before the giveaway ends"

It depends on how you read it. I thought she meant "before the giveaway ends" was a stipulation on both of the situations "giveaway is canceled" and "you withdraw your entry". Especially because of the word "only" at the beginning.

Also, "canceled" to me sounds like stopping it before it is finished.

Mayanaise interpreted my comment correctly; the "before the giveaway ends" was only applicable to the second half of the sentence. It should read like this: " Your points are only refunded if (1) the giveaway is canceled or (2) you withdraw your entry before the giveaway ends." They were also correct in their reading of "canceled" to include "deleted." I used the broader term to make sure I was including all situations where a giveaway doesn't properly conclude with a winner getting their key (e.g the creator recreates it with some changed parameters because they forgot to include region restrictions or somesuch).

If a giveaway is actually deleted after completion because the giveaway creator does not have a valid key and the winner agrees to a deletion, then yes, all entrants should get their points back. In situations where the winner merely marks the gift as not received, points would--as far as I know-- not be reimbursed.

My apologies to the OP if I wasn't clear. I thought the third and fourth sentences of my original answer made it clear when you would get your points back, but apparently I was wrong, lol. My bad. =D

Also, fwiw, I am a "she" not a "he." =)

If "Deleted" is written in red in the entry list, GA will be canceled by Accident etc. and points will be returned.
