I have been a customer of HIB since quite recently (since I can finally use paypal , hurray) to buy the games and I must say its pretty good deals, I mean you can buy a bunch of quality games and you can also do good , no problem with that.
However some changes could have been observed since a time: firstly they took away the possibility to really pay what you want (after the chaos with the steam winter coal even) and they put it to min 1 dollar. Which is still okay, no complaint about that.
The initially drm free games went more and more into steam only which was also okay, as well as offering separate keys for each of the games you get. Even though some people were trying to abuse it, their numbers werent that critical i think. And now they decided to go back into one single key again, at the very best you get two separate keys for the two part of the bundle if you BTA. This one is not really okay for two reasons:

  1. It means that if you have even at least one of the games of the bundles, that one will be simply lost. And unlike what lot of people did, I never abused of the system to sell those games, the only thing I "dared" to do is to give it away for some of my friends who cannot buy with CC and I dont think gifting is such a huge problem.
  2. They are basically treating users as "criminal", they are basically saying the following message with that: we dont trust you enough to give you separate keys so you will get all of them stocked in one and if you have any of those then too bad.
I dont support (and I deeply despise) people who are trying to make off the Humble Bundle at the damage of charities but this is really a bad message to all the people who have been buying packs on the standard and weekly sales.
Im not saying I will never ever buy from them again, HOWEVER it might make me think twice
I mean it wont stop abuse: ppl who want it to sell so badly will still do it, one key or not. However on the other hand it hurts legit customers who could give it away to friends or even on giveaway sites such as this one . Besides anyone with a right mind will know that people selling off HB bundles are to avoid (for obvious reasons and because they tend to try ripping off people quite badly)
.So to sum, up shortly: Humble Bundle is getting less and less about indie games (which is not such a huge problem as they still let indie devs showcasing their games, so its not like they wouldnt have the possibility to) and even less "humble"
    Any thought/reaction about that?

Actually the serials of the HB are for a single person, you can buy a entire bundle for a friend, but even if many many people share keys they're not intended for that. (Not judging anyone here.)
From HB FAQ:
"Q: If I already have a game(s) in the bundle do I have the ability to gift the extra copy in the bundle?
A: Unfortunately, if you already have a game in the bundle you will not be able to gift the extra games to a friend.

Please consider your bundle a "unit", and not to share copies of the games or Steam keys from it.

If you'd like to give a copy of the games away, we have a system in place that allows you to buy a gift key from www.humblebundle.com so your friends can have access to direct downloads as well as any Steam or other keys we have included."

Lesser evil, bigger evil, still evil. I can't judge as I've given to friends and givaways extra keys also, but we can't deny that IT'S wrong anyway. Pickpoket the changes from someone is less evil than getting their wallet? But still wrong.
When we give a friend that would have brough a bundle himself it's what we do, steal these few dollars that otherwise would go to charity, humble tip and owner company.

Sorry, you really don't know what you are talking about.

All of the early Humble Bundles gave you a single key that included all the games. If anything, the Humble Bundle is going back to their original roots rather than deviating, since they only recently started to go back to this single key thing.

I buy the bundle because I want the games, not because I want to sell/trade them. Yes I will trade my double keys or unwanted keys, but I'm not going to avoid buying a bundle just because it's single keys. At the end of the day HiB is for charity and not for gaining profit on game keys.

okay, first, drm free is always there for Indie Bundles, the weekly and special sales are seperate, and can be paid for 1 penny and play even multiplayer games...

1 dollar steamkeys was PER valves request, and you will note it's true just about everywhere that there is a 1 dollar minimum for steamkeys. the only exception is when groupees does single game + bundel extras for 0.75

NOT 5 games + for less than a dollar!!!

Individual keys vs bundled is ONLY on the publisher, not wolfire

I'm fine with it. The games are already dirt cheap, and if you buy a bundle and you already have a game or two in it, no big deal. You're still only paying a dollar or two for multiple games. Yes, I have given away a few "bundle leftovers" for games I already owned from a bundle, but if I couldn't it wouldn't really bother me much as I was already getting a bunch of games for next to nothing.

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you people? Should we get back to 10 years ago when 20 bucks for a game was an incredible offer?

I understand your point, last week bundle I've got most for tier 2, already have most of the tier 1 games and sound damn sad to see Red Faction and Supreme Commander fade just to add the Guild 2, yet I don't think we can complain mutch here, indeed I would have spend the same for tier 2 only and be happy on that.
Let's remember that many great games for low price aren't a right, it's a privilege that HB offer us.

Actually it's a steam problem - I believe you should always get additional gift copies when you buy/activate an additional license on your account, but publishers think otherwise (with the exception of Valve). I lost many games because of this (and not only because of bundle keys, steam store also does that). All in all it's an another license that you bought and you should get it to use it (give/sell) as you see fit.

Actally I like their 1-key method. It's not a big deal to "lost" some games when you can buy others which you want for 1$. The much worse are repeats, especially when you're kinda regular buyer. I got three copies of Nightsky from various HBs and had a big problem to even give it for free to somenone, because all my friends already have it too.

If you use it correctly, there wont be any difference from single and 1 key/game - as even giving to friends or SG is against theyr rules.
Sucks when you already have one or more of the games yeah, but you have to check if the ones you dont are worth the $ or not. I skipped a few bungles or BTAing just cause of that - whats left wasnt worth the cash.

I buy humble bundles because I want the games. I actually don't mind one bit when the games are combined on 1 key. It is less to copy and paste to add to my account. It would be one thing if they were bundling the same games over and over with 1 or 2 new games, but they have a good variety to the games and there are few repeats. If single keys are what it takes to get better games on the Humble Bundle, great.

Go buy a bundle of crap games from indie gala or something if you want to gift them to your friends.

Even if most of they indeed are criminals u.u (As sharing keys it's kinda indeed piracy).

Permalink

wait... what? no, it's not... piracy is not using a key... using multiple times the same keys would be, but you can't do that on steam, hacking a keygen to get infinite keys is piracy, you know, using torents and stuff is actual piracy (well, stealing the game from a store, using an eyepatch while drinking ron and treating employees with a sword or a matchlock pistol is "real" piracy)...
at much is abusing the humble system... but calling it piracy? really? what the fuck is wrong with you people?
