Do you need extensive knowledge of the general gameplay of the series or can you just pick it and play to learn?

a lot of the gameplay is pretty standard for a fighting game. the most unique features of the game are roman cancels and bursts so i don't think its too complex if you have a decent knowledge of fighting game conventions
