Buy first, worry later. Check in steam charts, 500-600 players not many but, maybe this sale will save it.

Games such as NS2 rely on MP only, if the game isn't populated is where the part "worry later" comes in.

I haven't played all that much, but in my experience, I've never had any trouble finding matches for NS2.

Its a very good game but a very high learning curve, its still decently populated during the main gaming hours when people get home

That happens every time you change payment methods.

Awesome game if you like deep FPS team-based multiplayer games that involve a lot of strategy and skill. One of the cool things is that the two sides are asymmetrical with respect to the way they play. As mentioned above the learning curve is a little steep just due to the sheer amount of stuff but it's well worth it if you can dedicate yourself to it. There's also an RTS element to the game if you play as one of the commanders but you shouldn't concern yourself with that for awhile. The original game lasted many years with people still playing it so I don't see this going any different.

I'm beginning to think these awesome discounts are foreshadowing price drops after the sale. That and Unknown Worlds Entertainment probably needs the dosh for pushing out so many updates and generally being an awesome dev that stands behind their game and their community.

Is this game going F2P? I know I never good at anything multiplayer but damn, I can't say no to 90% off.

nope they delivered all new content for free, but they have a program where you can donate them money for their effort -> Reinforcment Program

Be advised it's a quite hardware demanding game, you'll need a good pc to run NS2 at a decent framerate.
Aside from that It's a good high learning curve game, with asymmetrical gameplay.

Install it, play it, and make new friends in-game.

With people ingame? Not only do I rarely come across people with mic, but I get a headache with 80% of the people in the game for one reason or another. It is either a child, a rager, a thug wannabe, or someone who takes things too seriously. xD Everyone else doesn't like me.

I like the game and the gameplay... the only problem I have with it it's that I can't play it since it runs like crap for me and it's quite unplayable, this was when it had the free weekends.
So did they fix the low performance issues ? Since it wasn't only my problem, regular players had issues with performance as well.

My internet sucks. That alone makes me pass on any multiplayer game deals.

Agree with this. If it were something actually useful like weapons or in-game stuff you can consume, I would recommend the deluxe edition. If it's just skins or downloadables I am not going to spend more money.

I saw a rather disturbing thread whereby a guy explains his experience of being cursed out by "more experienced" players for being a rookie. (The game tags you as a rookie for the first 4 hours I believe) If the community is that unfriendly as said, I wouldn't play the game even if it's free.

My experience has generally been quite the opposite. When I was just starting out and even now as I continue to learn the game and play poorly, I have gotten nothing but help from my teammates. That has been one of the most pleasantly surprising elements of this game (along with a lot of people using mics productively, which can help in answering newbie questions). In the time I've played, only once have I seen a group of players get impatient and abusive towards a new player.

Same here, the exact opposite, they were so nice I was wondering what was the catch ! First time I experienced that in a multiplayer game, most of time, the "older" players don't care about the newbies (best case scenario), in NS2, the commander talked to me directly and was very patient (I'm not dumb but NS2 has some not obvious mechanics). One time, I tried to be commander, I sucked hard but no one spoke harshly, they just understood it was not easy and gave me some advices.

Did you read the steam forums? Becasue Steam specific games forums are usless, full of trolls, missinformed people and fanboys.
Now to the point, in my experience i can`t thnk of a friendlier community, like seriously i never had a game where is said "i am mad because of Troll A, by my raging teamate, etc.". Just make sure to enter a server in grren which is noobfriendly and they will even help you to understand the game.
Also play the tutorial before.

To me it looked really good, and reading reviews it looked even better. However on playing I have realized that my computer can barely run the game! It's sad.

My PC is quite fast and it still takes a lot of time to load some maps :/
