NC Day 7
In the morning, went to Catfish Lake in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Apparently there are Venus Flytraps and Pitcher Plants growing in that area, but we weren't able to find any. The lake itself was really dark colored, almost like tea. I certainly wouldn't go swimming in there! There were also a bunch of empty shotgun shells strewn all over the place. Looks like people were using the signs as target practice. Didn't really see too much except a bunch of turtles that jumped in the water before we could get anywhere near them.
Afterwards, went to Old Beaufort, wasn't too interesting. Such an unfortunate name
Finally, at about 2 PM, lunch at Smithfield's. BBQ, hush puppies, slaw, brunswick stew + Fried chicken, potato salad, beans. Such a good place - service was amazing. We each drank 3 giant cups of sweet tea... I calculated that out to 3/4 pound of sugar afterwards per person....
Ended the day over at Fort Macon State Park. Pretty well preserved, nice history.
Dinner at Big Oak Drive In. Clam burger, bbq sandwich, hush puppies
