[Q] If steam says i already have the product does it mean the key is still valid?

So i have Sanctum on my steam acc and i was trying to activate another Sanctum key thinking that it will go to gifts (like coupongs did) but it says that i already have the product. It doesen't say that the key is in use or anything so how im i supposed to know is the key valid or not? I can't make a giveaway if i'm not 100% sure that the key works.

If you already own the game and try to activate it with a key, then it won't go through and will still be usable for someone else because it failed to redeem to your account.

So, yes, it's still valid.

It depends on the priority they give to the messages you receive when a key doesn't redeem. I would think that an already redeemed message would take priority over a message that you already have it, but I could be wrong.

I think you're right, I tried to activate key for Dead Island (which I already had) and it said I can't activate it because the key isn't valid... :)

anyway, not sure about sanctum (if it was in any bundle or will be...), but be careful with the keys, if it is from a bundle - you're not allowed to make a giveaway unless it would be the whole bundle :)

Note: Lets say you have game called Crayon Physics and you have key that adds 2 games lets say: Aquarium and Crayon Physics.
If you will use key your another Crayon Physics will dissapear but Aquarium will appear. It once happened to me (It could change)

Would you like the knowing that you could kick a** right now in Sanctum with your friends but can't because some generous guy who was about to give you the key is stuck behind steam support that takes 2-3 days to even view your submited ticket? :D

I understand your problem, but I honestly don't know any other way to be certain. I'm guessing it's probably valid. Do you have some reason to believe it's not?

It is valid, but you will be unable to check if the key has been used or not.
