He later commented that it's his prediction/expectation, not a fact.

Considering how rushed 2 was, I'm definitely intrigued to see what they're bringing to the table. Hopefully not just VR jazz.

Well as someone who has played a ton of the first and then the second, I would have to disagree. In my opinion L4D2 was/is easily a notably superior game in just about every facet since launch. If it wasn't then I wouldn't have thousands of hours in it playing custom campaigns with friends instead of in L4D1. Just about the only thing that L4D1 had over L4D2 is that an argument could be made that it had a little bit of a darker and more serious or grim tone to it. From the standpoint of everything else like game mechanics, graphics & effects, weapons, enemy variety, levels, etc there's no contest imo. I know that L4D2 surprised some people in that it was released only a year after L4D1 but I don't think it was rushed. They re-used a modified version of the same engine and a lot of the building blocks were already in place because of the first game. In a sense it was not unlike when Nintendo used the engine and certain assets from Ocarina of Time to produce Majora's Mask on the N64 quicker than people probably would have thought.

I mostly agree with you but there's one thing bugging me about L4D2 that I've never seen anyone address. I think they've added way too many special infected, L4D1 feels like a compact and balanced survival experience. But L4D2 most of the times feels like a shitshow, there are so many special infected spawning left and right. So much shit going on with no chance to breathe that most of the times it feels funny rather than scary. There's no anticipation like in L4D1, no creep factor whenever I'm waiting for the next one to attack, not knowing where they'll come from next. I like the new special infected but 4 different ones per match felt perfect for me.

I mean, isn't that what they'd say if they were working on it but weren't ready to announce?

I don't think so, I don't remember of any company that did that. They wouldn't benefit with anything by lying about it, if they wouldn't want to announce they just wouldn't announce it. I think they wanted to extinguish the hype fast because otherwise it would get massive media coverage and a ton of anticipation and broken hearts.

The second game is officially called L4D2, no presentation would call if LFD3 when talking about Valve.

I think this is a prank. I think the valve will never allow the game to be given number 3.

It came from HTC CEO. He didn't say until much later it's "his speculation".

If they start banning people for relaying news that were also on reddit, twitter, facebook and every major gaming website today, just because Valve later said HTC presentation isn't that credible source (if we can trust Valve on this at all, it's in their interest to hide if they are working on this - that's what they did a few years ago when HTC also leaked they are working on a new HL property!) then this website will die in a few months.

there you have l4d3...
It's zombi-Coop by turtle rock... Release will be this year.

well... at least a bit
"Is this Left 4 Dead 3?!

No. Back 4 Blood is our own brand new, original IP. You’ll be able to shoot up a lot of zombies like in Left 4 Dead, but there’s a whole lot of new stuff in Back 4 Blood which makes it unique."

That link just redirects to the main site. Here's one that worked for me:
https://turtlerockstudios.com/news/b4bannouncement

Anyway yeah, Turtle Rock Studios is the original creator of the Left 4 Dead franchise before the IP was acquired by Valve so I am eagerly anticipating to see what they have to offer in a spiritual successor with Back 4 Blood.

This seems very fake, the slides alone sound ridiculous, so their content is questionable at best.
