Please, don't be a bunch of morons, I just want a straight and simple answer.

I've been trying to reinstall Modern Warfare 3 for an hour now, using my disc, and don't ask me why I am.
Anyways, during the hour, it's been stuck of the installing window thing for an hour now, and hasn't even done anything.

Any ideas?

He's thinking very intensely...for 18 hours. You can feel the tension in the air as the internet waits for his answer.

Can you give us a little more detail? Why did you uninstall it the first time? Where about did it stop (1%? 99%? Is there a file name..)? Are the rest of your applications working normally? The more info you provide, the better we can help you out.

Because Black Ops 2 had come out, and I needed space. It doesn't even install 1%. Yup, everything else is working fine.

If it requires Steam to run, then you don't ever need the discs again after the first time you activated it on Steam. You can just download it from your Steam library, and thats what I suggest you do. If it doesn't use Steam, then I suggest you just ctrl alt delete it if you think its frozen and let it install while you sleep.

try making image of the disk or copying the installer from disk. In this way you will know if disk is fine or not.

No idea what that means, but I could always try my disc. I've been using my brothers disc.

well, then try yours, and see if it installs.. Also check some other disk, if that fails also. Maybe some issue with the DVD Rom Drive lens.

My Dark Souls got delivered today, and installed that, it worked fine.

Just download it off Steam, don't waste time installing from disk, it's slower. Unless of course your ISP is slower than a turtle riding a snail.

I would download it off steam, but if I do, that's going to use alot of my data plan.

Found this on a Google search - not sure about it working though:

  1. Don't run the disc setup; instead have your DVD in the drive and open up Steam.

  2. Open the backup window (Steam → Backup and Restore Games…).

  3. Select Restore a previous backup.

  4. Browse to the drive letter of the installation DVD.

  5. Steam should tell you that it found a backup of Modern Warfare 3. Click next.

  6. The game will hopefully install from disc.

Question is do you have this problem installing other games by disk ? If not it could be the disk it self, could have a problem reading it, I had this happen few times. But now i just use steam.

I also have data plan of 250 max. It not easy but when it comes close to end of the month and there is space left you should download what you can. What i do. I have 3 people using it to so yeah same problem. lol.

I've noticed that, when i put the disc in, and go to MW3's setup, the disc/disc drive starts rattling for 5 seconds.
