I remember when I installed the latest game of the Legacy of Kain series. I was thrilled to play it. I will control present day Kain!!

And then... The camera. Awful camera placement in a 3D platformer is an unforgivable sin, but there were early to mid 2000s and devs were trying and experiencing different things.

Yesterday I was struggling with the camera of Enslaved Odyssey to the West, it is also a relatively old game, but happens to a lot of new games too.

I'm thinking... How can this still be a problem? Even in AAA games.

I hate when cameras have pooppoor control, I remember playing FFX and hated that you couldn't control it since it was in an awkward position ;-;

Enslaved Odyssey is disappointing to hear about, I need to play it but now I know its going to be a bit of a chore :(

I feel like some games recently do it for a stylistic flair but I honestly wish they just got rid of it :(

I actually didnt struggle with Enslaved that much.. Was decent for me..

But Spintires has the most horrible camera positioning Ive ever seen... They moved on to different publisher and made another version of the game. And they kept the god damn camera position...
I love the game so I just live with it and still play it because of game itself.. but that camera.. argh..

i see this as one of the main differences between controllers and keyboard and mouse. with controllers the right thumb hast to take care of the action buttons and the camera controls, so it makes sense for developers to take control, of the camera from you when they expect you to use those action buttons.

and the mouse has the action buttons on top of it, allows you to have control of the camera at all times.

It is a shame as it not only removes agency from the player, but also removes the possibility of using the camera as an effective control method, like Jedi Knight series or Batman Arkham Asylum/City

Dark Souls 1 is unplayable. I think most of the time, poor camera control relates to poor and lazy ports of console games

I use my imagination to make up for the piss poor camera control.

Like in Hyperdimension Neptunia U and MegaTagmension Blanc, as a keyboard player, my left hand is on directional and special attack trigger, my right hand is on action button. I don't have any hand left for camera control, and have to rely on my imagination, or occasionally stop attacking to adjust the camera.
