Do I have to play the Call of Duty Modern Warfare series in order?

Do I have to play the Call of duty Modern Warfare games in the correct order or could I just jump from game to game...and which one is the best?

If you are playing multiplayer, it doesn't matter.

If you are playing for story, yeah, start in order. Also you can just flat out ignore 3.
