EDIT: Okay, looks like I hadn't thought this all the way through. Plus it's aimed at a more casual audience. I was more excited when thinking about how to organize it, so I guess I should focus on a more general idea. Is there a different service you would find helpful?

Obligatory giveaways (level 1+), end Sep 30:
Twist of Destiny
Spaceguard 80
M1: A Death in the Desert
Mustache Politics Shooter
Vangers
Galactic Lords
Walhall
Simple Light Cycles
Perfect Heist
Marooners
Skulls of the Shogun
These are slightly older keys; if the key doesn't work, please agree to delete the giveaway and I'll give you a different game. Sorry for the low quality.

Hi everyone! So I've been looking for ways I can be helpful and support myself while doing what I love with gaming. My favorite idea so far is for a service where you tell me what game(s) you want and about how much you want to pay for them (there can be lots of other fine-tuning too). Then I'll monitor sales, specials, deals, bundles, etc on as many sites as possible, and when I find a sale that meets your criteria, I'll buy the game for you. That way you don't have to spend time digging through all the sales on hundreds of games that are always going on just to find the few games you want. Or if you don't even know where to start, you can just leave it to me and I'll get you what you want at a good price. You almost never need to pay full price for a game.

I have almost two years of experience with getting the best possible deal and I have access to exclusive programs like Humble subscriber discounts and Green Man Gaming VIP discounts.

Obviously, to make it worth the time I would spend on this, I would need to charge a kind of finder's fee along with the price I paid for the game. I was thinking somewhere between 5% and 10% of the game's retail price. What do you feel would be a reasonable price? I'd also be open to a trade of games instead, I have several years of collecting I'm still catching up on :P.

I could also offer other related services, such as unknown key checking against my large library, pre-ordering for you if you're waiting for the next paycheck, and anything else I can do with the experience I have.

So what do you think, does this sound like a worthwhile service? Is there a way it could be better? Is there something else that would be more helpful to you? Thank you for reading!

Good idea or bad idea?

Sounds good, but not something I'd use.
I'm not so sure.
Potato

doesn't "is there a deal" let you create alerts, so you'll know when a game you want is on sale for a certain price?
Why would someone pay you for a service that's available for free?

Take that out of the equation, and there's still a problem.
Think how much time and effort goes into monitoring every possible source for such a game, at all times? If you don't check in every single day, you might miss the deal. The amount of time you'll spend looking will be disproportionate to your earnings for all but the latest AAA games. Particularly as your fee needs to be included - if I set a maximum price of $10, you'll need to wait for the sale price to go below that.

Have you looked into steamtrades? you'll notice there are a lot of traders there. And that's a great way to leverage any discounts you might have. For example, during the last namco build-you-own bundle, it was possible for you to buy Tekken 7 for $4.80. At the time, you could probably have sold it for $5 or $6, and if you were willing to hold on to it, I'm sure you could find a buyer for $7.50 today
The big risk there is, sometimes the value of a game on the trading market goes up, but sometimes it craters (particularly if it gets bundled).

Yes, it does. But it's not always totally accurate and doesn't accurately reflect discounts all the time, especially the programs I mentioned. There are also some gray market sites it doesn't list if someone didn't mind buying from those.

But mostly it and gg.deals do their job perfectly and summed up you couldn't do so much better to justify a 5-10% cut for yourself.

Fair enough, all good points. Back to the drawing board then.

You should also keep in mind that most shops tend to have restrictions regarding the quantity. They'll register if you buy multiple copies, especially if you should do so regularly. You'd probably need new credit cards frequently etc to keep your business running.

you miss a point youre gonna buy the game & the other person sees the sale too ,you end up with a copy and hes gonna buy it for himself .

Part of the idea is they won't have to worry about sales at all, but that's a very good point.

but still, before you can take a cut, the sale needs to be deep enough.
If I said I want a recent AAA game (retail $60) but don't want to pay more than $30, I'm waiting quite a while for a 50% off sale. but I'll have to wait even longer for a 55% sale which would allow you to take a 10% fee. By that time, I'll have already seen it for 50% off and bought it myself.

Were you planning on writing some kind of webpage that monitors these sites? What sort of automation did you have in mind, that is better than both gg.deals and isthereanydeal.com?

Updated the title so the GAs get more entries. Thank you everyone for the feedback.

Just poke to let you to know that we are working on the new guidelines for SG. And we have there list of content that can never be posted on SG:

Reselling keys and links to reseller stores. Do not use our site to resell keys, and do not post offers from stores which allow third parties to resell their keys or gifts. For example, do not ask others if they are interested in buying your leftover keys from a recent bundle purchase, or link to keys for sale on sites such as Kinguin, G2A, or Eneba.

You'd effectively resell games you bought for profit. Which means you could not post any information about your site on SG.

Also my thing about your idea:

unknown key checking against my large library

You know it means that all keys submitted by users which you would not already have would feed your library, and person submitting key would be left with nothing? Unless you'd buy and give key back to the user after it's activated on your account - this part is IMO bit scummy. It also may (depending how final rules will look like) fall under another banned content:

Collecting money, items, or games for giveaways, lotteries, or group access. For example, asking users to donate a few dollars, with the promise of giving away a valuable game once adequate funds have been raised. Or, asking users to personally send you games and items for an event. Or, requiring users to send you annual fees to participate in your Steam group.

Understood, thanks. As for the key thing, obviously I would compensate fairly for any that I don't own. But I don't think I'll be moving forward with any of this based on the feedback.

It's a good idea. But you need to automate it. I'm not going to hire some dude to do it for me. But, if there was a site like GG Deals that, instead of sending me alerts all the time, allowed me to purchase wallet funds and then just used those funds to purchase me game keys at the prices I set - that would be awesome!

I wouldn't personally need this, as "Is There Any Deal" does that job well enough for me. Bumping for the giveaways!
