As quoted from the Steam store,

Fractured Minds is an immersive artistic short game, exploring anxiety and mental health issues. Embark on a journey through the human psyche and experience six atmospheric and thought-provoking chapters, each symbolizing a different aspect or challenge associated with mental health issues; from isolation to anxiety, with everyday situations being distorted beyond recognition.

Raw, emotive and earnest, Fractured Minds demonstrates that video games are capable of communicating vital messages in imaginative ways. It is a game that seeks to encourage empathy and champion support for the millions living with mental health issues.

But the most important thing,

80% of the proceeds will help fund Emily’s career as well as future initiatives from Safe In Our World.

From what I've managed to find out, Safe in Our World is a rather newly-established (October 2019) mental health charity organization for the video games industry. Whether it is "legit" or not, you'll have to decide for yourself - the link's provided above and if you have questions, you can try writing in and asking them directly.

If you'd like to support the young dev, Emily - she's a BAFTA Young Game Designers Award winner too! - and the cause, feel free to drop by Steam and pick the game up: https://store.steampowered.com/app/688740/Fractured_Minds/

Personally, I'd like to pitch in with a GA: [Level 1+; runs for a week] Fractured Minds

Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated in any way to the game, the developer or the charity. Spotted the game while browsing, noticed her cause, and thought you all might be interested to know about this game.

Would you buy a game at full price just to support a good cause/charity?

If it's a cause/charity I want to support, yes, in a heartbeat πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“
No, money still doesn't grow on trees unfortunately. At a discount maybe... πŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’Έ

Hope it's legit and will help with the matter at least a little bit.

it isn't clear what portion of the 80% actually goes to charity...because it definitely isn't all of it.

Yes, you're absolutely right. You'll also be supporting a young, award-winning indie dev as well, who may use the funds to pay for her tuition, for her own mental health treatment or something else. Honestly, I'm not sure how they are planning to split that 80%.

I'd say, if you're not interested in the game at all, then you might not want to donate through this method and may want to opt for a slightly more direct method instead.

However, if you would like to experience Emily's game which some people might find helpful AND give a little something (80% of $2 isn't really much) to charity (which may or may not be legit), then you might be interested to buy Fractured Minds.

I would have felt much better about this approach if she had just said something like "70% of the proceeds of this sale is going to me, an up and coming young dev that you can feel good about supporting and 10% to this charity which is really close to my heart."

I think a lot more people would be more inclined to buy the game if this is mentioned as well :)

Again, not the end of the world but I have a nonprofit background as well as being halfway into an MBA program and I tend to notice these things. :D

It's really good of you to point out :) I didn't think of asking how they will split the 80% but I did notice the part where it mentioned that the dev is only splitting, and not giving, her profits with a charity and hence, I know it's not a 100% donation.
