It reminds me what they did to promote Darkwood
They have sold very few copies of Serious Sam Bogus Detour:
9,761 ± 3,097 owners

Vs
161,832 ± 12,610 owners

Somehow I missed it (I check steam's release list very often but due to how gradual releases are, some things do fall through the cracks)' thanks for the heads up.

Well, I'm really sorry for the devs. Hammerwatch was really fun. Shows how hard it is to have good sales nowadays.
Good devs releasing a fun arcade game, using a well-known franchise, working with a good publisher... and poor sales still.
I remember the game wasn't even released with local coop, it received it later upon request. Some people even complained that the trailer where people were playing on the TV/couch led to believe the game had local coop.
It also had a mod contest over moddb, with nice prizes and all...
Could be fun playing in multiplayer, though. Let's hope it really helps it sales eventually!
It just feels like nowadays the only way to get some sales boost is to get streamed by some popstar full of fans or something along these lines...
Even being featured on "PC magazines" such as PCGamer and others doesn't really cut it... I met Temple of Spikes (just released a few days ago) on an article by of the these big magazines, and the number of players on that is really really small as if it wasn't released at all.

Steam sale mentality at work; people are waiting for a good sale or a bundle.

Well, that's partially right I guess. I am one of those waiting for 75%+ off on Steam to buy it, even if I wouldn't really play it much.
Funny how it got 85% off in Humble Store, and only 50% on Steam...

Because I LOVE Hammerwatch, I bought their other games as well.
But... I am somehow glad "Bogus Detour" is not selling as good as Hammerwatch, because its just not as good ^^'
"Heroes of HW" tries to blend the other two games. I miss the cool dungeons and hidden stuff and fun combat :(
For people, who feel the same: There are very great fanmade mods on steam! :D Great new ideas!
Some day I want to finish "Bogus Detour", but... I would rather play Hammerwatch again :P
For the torrent topic: Nice! Great way to test before buying! Support the developers!! But only, if you like the game enough ;) If not... buy Hammerwatch, so maybe they will make a second one or at least give me... I mean US... another campaign as DLC :3

Oh, the only thing I really remember in Hammerwatch is that I almost got carpal tunnel from playing it. Not sure if they added autoattack option later, but it surelly was needed... but was really fun.

Never happy to see a studio struggling, but no idea why they'd choose the Serious Sam brand instead of a fresh IP, or just another Hammerwatch title. Steam already has over a dozen SS games, was anybody really crying out for more? Personally, I'd have been more likely to pay attention to "Hammerwatch: Bogus Detour" in any case.

I'm going to guess it's because of the simple fact that Serious Sam is a better-known brand and that you're probably not representative in this case
I'm curious to know if you think it actually hurt them to be associating with Serious Sam.

I don't know how many people feel like I do, but in my case it could potentially harm sales, because I'd definitely be less inclined to find out more. I honestly don't recall ever seeing mention of this particular game, but if I did (or if I had) I would most likely have thought, "Wait, is that a new one? Another one? Meh."
I guess it's just that I've been playing SS games longer than Steam has even existed :D I think I'll always associate them with a particular brand of mindless chaotic shooty fun, and there are just so many games that scratch that particular itch, so I'm more likely to try something new rather than something that feels played-out... And honestly, I can't think of any games which could still draw some appeal for me after a dozen sequels.

Iunno, I always liked the Serious Sam series, but I was a little more hesitant to try a 2d version. I'd love to see a Serious Sam 4 though. I've also enjoyed Bulletstorm, the new Shadow Warrior & Rise of the Triad, loved DOOM, and waiting for DUSK and Ion Maiden to leave EA before I try em out. What other oldschool-style shooters have you enjoyed?

Over the years, I've loved playing all the games you mention - including the Serious Sam series. I've also loved the Wolfenstein games (Wolfenstein 3D was probably the first game I was ever totally hooked on, in fact) as well as Quake, Unreal, Aliens vs Predator, COD, Crysis... FPS games were the bread and butter of PC gaming for so long, I've played (and loved) loads of them - but with the consequence that nowadays, they need to be exceptional to catch my attention. While Wolfenstein and Doom have managed brilliantly to remain exciting and relevant, I don't feel that Serious Sam has really brought anything new to the table in a long time, and it certainly doesn't help that there are so many titles in the series.
Ed: and this conversation has reminded me to install Painkiller, because I've been meaning to try that for a loooooong time :D

DUSK and Ion Maiden: Wishlisted now. Thanks for that.
I love the Sam series, also haven't tried this one, though I own it. I Seriously doubt it will feel right. Couldn't help that..
As for others that may or may not have been mentioned, I enjoyed the original Prey, and even the new and completely unrelated one. I'd say the original counts as old school while the latter doesn't.

I'd say it's fairly safe to assume you're not representative of the average consumer then. The reason franchises seem to go on and on forever is simply that familiarity sells.
Also, just to be clear, I have nothing against your viewpoint. It's was your claim of having no idea why they choose a known brand association that got me curious :)

that was in Sep 17 on HB when it was insanely cheap.

I had this problem yesterday. I redownloaded everything and it worked today.
Did you execute anything prior to putting the crack there and running the executable?

Tried to install again minutes ago and It worked, BUT the character kept a diagonal stance (5 o´clock), the crosshair didn´t channge his position. I don´t know what happened...

Article: https://torrentfreak.com/voksi-pirates-new-serious-sam-game-with-permission-from-developers-180312/
Basically, the cracker Voksi has created a "pirated" release of the game with the permission of the developers, in an attempt to increase sales. I bought the game a while back on the Humble Bundle sale and thought it was really cool, nice co-op multiplayer too. So yea, give it a try and if you like it support the devs by buying it on Steam or GOG.
