Meh, not worth the effort it takes to comment. That's how bad it is.

Nhnh has two usages I'm aware of.
First, to express ejaculation; which yes, is positive, but seemed really weird in context, though thinking it over now, I guess you may have been intending that as a metaphorical expression of joy- though your comment above negates that.
Second, as an acronym for 'Not helpful, not harmful', which is what I ended up assuming you meant.
Mhm is a sign of contemplation, conveying benevolent ambivalence. It's positive, but not by much.
"Are you going to be okay?" "Mhm. [I'm not going to be not-okay.]"
Hmmmm we can agree on :P
I've never heard the usages you intended for the other two, and I've seen both onomatopoeias used several times before.
A difference in localized usages, I suppose :)

Probably. Where are you from?
I could agree with you on the usage/meaning of nhnh. I just made it up when posting this thread. The sound a kid makes when shaking his/her head.
Mhm is commonly used in chats worldwide as a form of saying yes. Everyone I know uses it, and I chat with people from all over the world (namely all the great Steamgifters around here).

Nhuh, maybe? Nnahh would maybe be best, it'd not precisely convey typical sound, but the inclusion of 'nah' in the letters would assure association. Then again, actually vocalizing it kinda sounds like a sheep's bleet :P
I've been using and known people using Mhm since I was a kid, and my interactions online fully meet my expectations of its usage.
Are you, perhaps, thinking Mmhm, which DOES mean yes?
It could just be people leaving off a letter, I suppose.. :/

And actually, it sounds completely different.
For Mhm you don't purse your lips at all, the h is completely silent, it's very short in duration, and it's soft-breathy, like a sigh. (Just hold the starting sound of M as in Monkey for half a second.)
For Mmhm, you vocalize it louder, it's a rising-breathy, and it sounds a bit more like mm-hmm than 'hmmm', and there's a very slight pursing of the lips.
I'm not BSing, I've got a[n autistic] thing about paying attention to words and sounds :P
Which is probably why I'm so attentive to the 'correct' spelling, while other people are probably more likely to intuit the noise they expect regardless of spelling.

Lacked two games, bought for one of them. Early access but sounds like it could be interesting at least.
