Lucky you! Do you know how long does it takes to ship the deck? Is it shipped from the EU?
I'm also in Q2, from NL too, but no email yet.....

They supposedly ship it from The Netherlands (Den Haag), it took 1 day for steam to pick up and send it, now it's at GPS, but no info yet. I think tommorow or friday it will come (so 2-3 days).

I ordered it in the second time they started the reservations.

Nice! Which model did you get? And what games are you going to play on it?

512GB one, not sure yet, with 10k games, there is alot to choose from, but i think being a retro person, i might use Retrodeck at first (and the most). I had an Archos tablet once that did it's job great, but it fell from my nightstand 30cm to the ground on thick soft carpet, yet it still became too slow to use ( now have a wooden floor so have to be extra careful).

I wish I hadn't waited a day before ordering my Steam Deck, now I have to wait until Q3 (July and September), suppose it'll have to be a birthday prezzie. :D

Hmmm i thought i ordered the second day too (since everyone tried alltogether the first time you couldn't go through the order proces). But it's been awhile ago so i dunno anymore.

Hey, by then it's 100% compatible with all games. ;)

I think I ordered later on in the day, I was in Q2 but it changed not long back when they started sending them out to Q3.

I'm never in any rush so I don't mind waitin, as you say they might have compatibility and any other problems they might have sorted by then. :)

There are some reported issues so far... mine was a bit off because I couldn't find anyone complaining about it. I had three problems that could be related (or not..)
1) Hardware - I would receive electric shocks from it now and then. I double-checked all my electric plugs to see if they were grounded or not... and since it didn't happen while handheld mode, we supposed it was due to the charger. (Got a new one from Valve)
2) Hardware - My speakers started to buzz. After resetting to the factory settings Valve decided just to RMA it.
3) Software/config - On "Desktop mode" my deck would only have input options when the Steam app was closed. I couldn't even log in on Steam to see if it changed because I couldn't summon a keyboard (the steam key wouldn't work while on desktop mode, and I couldn't troubleshoot if inputs were proper or not).

To be honest, I could troubleshoot further, but since I do not own a USB-C dock, I got to a moment I couldn't really do much. To re-flash the deck you need a USB-C stick (in theory one cannot do it using the MicroSD), and I couldn't further explore troubleshooting in the desktop mode without a physical keyboard (mine is not Bluetooth/USB-C)

Said all this, I had over 150 hours of fun, so far.. . I just contacted support because, although I was happy with the SD, if there was a Hardware issue I would rather have it fixed.

Hope this isn't a common issue then else you might just face the same (or some of them) again.

And usb-C? Something new learned again today.

Also... my issues were not that common. I think the main issues for RMA so far are dead pixels and a "stuck" B button.
As additional info: there are two distinct fans being shipped with the deck. One is reportedly "quiet" and the other with a high pinch sound.
Sadly there is no way to know which one you are receiving and it is kind of a lottery to get a quiet fan.
(Said all this, my deck had the quiet fan, so I am a bit afraid of what will come in few weeks.... )

Still all things that don't look promising. :| I wonder if it's easy to replace the fan, you probably might lose warranty for trying though.

Well... it was bound to have some issues
But even considering all this, it is a great hardware! I posted mine today and already miss it
(I was barely using my notebook while I had it)

The issue with the fan I think is the one most people are complaining, since it cannot be RMAed because of this.
They have already identified the kind of fans and so on... I do not think the Warranty is voided by changing it. Unless you damage any other circuit, you are free to do as you please.

(let's keep the bump going)
mostly Elden ring.
It took me 175 hours to 100% it, since I avoided any guide for item location.
By the end of it I was already in contact with Support for the RMA so I had just started Dandara before closing it to ship.

Hopefully until I come back I manage to get one of those Spyro giveaways to be my next game :)

I got it now, bigger then i thought, it's a beast.

But how does one know if you got a noisy fan? I mean i can hear it even while playing a simple game like Alex Kidd (while compatible didn't work as i couldn't click new game). I am very sensitive to sound, so i notice such things too easily.

Also can't update the bios, i need >20% battery power, while it's at 93%..

It is a beast! But you do get used to it quite quickly, I must say.

Pretty much one fan you only hear the air exhaust and the other you hear the high pinch frequency of its spinning.
If it is not super high frequency, most likely you scored a "quiet fan".
It is said that even running light games would make the fan noisy.

Compatibility issues you have two communities to check.
protondb and steamdeck . gg (if I am not mistaken)
While not complete, people put their fixes/optimal configs for the games to run.

About the BIOS Update: I am unsure how to do it... I think the best community to check it would be reddit / steamdeck.

Steam Deck = niiiiiiicccceeee

You know what I got (that I didn't intend to get, but it was such a good deal I couldn't walk away from it) last week? An EVGA 3090ti. Yep, for real. Card's only been out for 2 weeks, and I'm running one. It is a BEAST.

Permalink

Grats, how much did it cost?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Right at $2K (before taxes and stuff). So, basically the retail cost of a regular 3090. That's almost 4X what I've ever spent on a GPU before, but considering that I can't find anything right now, and even a 3080 is pushing that much money in terms of street cost, it was a good deal. I'm already seeing 3090ti cards going for over $3K.

So yeah, stupid amount of money...but a really good deal. And now I won't have to upgrade my GPU for at least 3-4 years, maybe 5. I'm gonna call it a win in this market. 😆

When there are bitminers still, there will always be a market for them (and prices being pushed).

Yeah, maybe even longer, not seeing many yet that even pushes mine 2080TI.

Enjoy it.

Yeah, I was running a 1070, so it was time for an upgrade. Didn't expect to go this big, but I don't want to have to be in the GPU market again for a while. :D

I'm happy for you getting hold of one of these elusive rarities at a decent price. You missed to include the price of a portable fusion reactor to run your beast in the cost of ownership though.

now I'm real jelly! And I'm here rotting with a mere 770. though, granted, even if I was faced with such an opportunity I wouldn't have so much cash to fork over... I only hope you're squeezing every last drop of juice from it with a nice 4k 144Hz panel :D
what CPU you've got it paired with?

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, kind of a pricey card (ok, ok, a really pricey card)...had to agree to sell off some other stuff I had laying around to make my wife cool with the concept. But that's probably a good thing all around, because it was stuff I hadn't touched in a while and I'll use the card every day for several years.

Welp, no 4K panel yet. I'm running ultra-wide, but it's still 1080p. Guess what I'm asking for as a Christmas present? 😉😁

My CPU is a 2950X Threadripper 2 (16-core). Got it a couple of year ago now, and almost nothing has made it shrug yet (other than ripping bluray discs to my home server at full quality...that will actually utilize every core at near max capacity). Memory is 32Gb of Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro (white edition), mobo is Gigabyte X399 AORUS XTREME, cooling is Corsair H115I Platinum 280mm, keyboard Corsair K95 RGB Platinum, mouse is Razer Basilisk Ultimate Hyperspeed.
