If you go to the store page you will see "Notice: At the request of the publisher, Alpha Protocolβ„’ is no longer available for sale on Steam." Apparently Sega's Publishing Rights have ended.

It's being moved to EGS.

I guess that's fair speculation. I'm leaning toward a remastered version published under Obsidian themselves and stay on Steam. However I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to go with Private Division again and then it will more than likely be on the Epic Game Store exclusive for 1 year.

I made a mistake, wrong publisher. I thought Paradox Interactive was publishing The Outer Worlds, it's Private Division. I've corrected my comment.

nah, it was the typical EPIC joke as per any game thread requirement XD

I'm not expecting to see it get remastered or appear anywhere else. RIP.

That's a shame. It's a really good game - also, the first thing I ever won on SG :)

You'd need a remake to fix that gameplay anyway, not a remaster.

You'd need a miracle to fix that gameplay. (I'm joking I never played it)

The biggest joke was the hacking... tediously painful.

Your joke is painfully close to the truth though (I love Alpha Protocol, but it's one of those games that really tries its hardest to not be loved).

What does Sega losing their publishing rights have to do with the possibility of Obsidian Entertainment making a remastered version of Alpha Protocol? It's their IP.

That's right. But what does this have to do with them not making a remaster because Sega lost the publishing rights?

Why am I bringing up Sega? Because you responded to my OP. Sega lost the publishing rights and you responded with..

They lost the publishing rights. Don't expect a remaster. It's been de-listed from other stores as well.

So what does Sega losing the publishing rights have anything to do with it?

I don't think you're understanding something possibly. I'm aware that Microsoft purchased Obsidian and that Microsoft has to be on board with it, I never disputed that and said I "that's right" to your comment. The publishing rights reverted back to the IP owner and a remaster could be created if they wanted to. What does Sega have to do this? I'm bringing up Sega because you said in your first comment that they lost the publishing rights and then not to expect a remaster.

Yeah I definitely didn't get that from the first comment. Thank you for making things much clearer.

From what I'm also understanding now about the situation is Sega actually might still own the IP, which totally changes everything I was thinking.

Oh wow I didn't even know they had a license with a Disney IP back then till you mentioned it just now. That's really interesting.

I found an article about it just now on Kotaku. It's almost half way down under "The Snow White Spin-Off That Wasn't".

According to a follow-up reply, SEGA also confirmed that the publishing rights reverted to Obsidian.

this would explain way it went away without a final sale. I'm hopeful of its return, though i dont expect a remake.
if it was due to music license expiring SEGA would just add a new version without the original soundtrack, like they did with Crazy Taxi

I was predicted this, the xbox 360 version was delisted 1 year before today. I've grab this game on a Sega's promotion in 2017, is a good game with amazing graphics but sadly got delisted. Has another Obsidian game with segas's collab on steam? i need to put in my warning list.

I don't see the reason why they'd even remove the game then if music was the sole problem. That's just a patch then.

So some music rights expired and they didn't feel the need to renew them.
The IP is still in the hands of Sega.
