After searching on endless web topics for a final and correct order in which to play DA:O Ultimate Edtion, i have come to ask for more experienced users opinion. I really love this game, so please help me out and put them in the correct play order:

  1. Dragon Age Origins
  2. Dragon Age Origins Awakening
  3. Witch Hunt
  4. Return to Ostagar
  5. Leliana's Song
  6. Warden's Keep
  7. The Darkspawn Chronicles
  8. The Golems of Amgarrak
  9. The Stone Prisoner

PS: please post only if you have played (and finished) DA:O Ultimate Edition

Its been years since I played them all on 360, but some are set between the original and Awakening, some are set after both, and at least one happens before the two. There is also one that happens during the game, and another which doesn't happen at all, acting as an alternate reality where the player wasn't around to help.

I recommend just playing them after you are done with the rest of the game, unless you want the extra items each will unlock in the main game.

Also, look up the free DLCs here on the forum, there should be an old topic about them somewhere here on SG.

Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar and The Stone Prisoner are all played out during Origins. With those out of the way, I'd say go with Origins, Awakening and then anything in the order you want - it doesn't really matter, since those stories are independant from each other.

Leliana's Song is set before DA:O; Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep and Return to Ostagar are all directly in the game (you can't play them seperately), but as Delta said, you should play the original first, and then the addons, except for those in the game already.

As DeltaBladeX pointed, plus Return to Return to Ostagar, Warden's Keep and The Stone Prisoner are all added in the main campaign.
One of these days maybe I should find someone to get the Ultimate Edition. Those other DLCs look quite interesting for a fan of the game.

Pretty sure it doesn't really matter... It's an open-world thing, after all. For example, I did Warden's Keep immediately after I hit the camp just so I'd have the Party Chest from the get-go. As far as I know, the only 'restriction' is that Witch Hunt happens after the main story of Origins.

The Darkspawn Chronicles, Leliana's Song, The Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt are side stories (like Awakening, you don't need to play main game to play them) but they add items to main (and Awakening) after winning them (or at least getting some achievos).

But then they might have some spoilers.

No, this list is incorrect, i finished the game 5 times and i would say:

  1. DA:O - during DA:O: Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar, The Stone Prisoner -------
  2. The Darkspawn Chronicles, Witch hunt, Leliana's song, Golem's of Amgarrak (at this point, the order doesn't matter) ------
  3. DA: Awakening --------
If you would like to know Leliana's back story before you play DA:O, obviously play it before you start the story, it won't spoil anything from DA:O storyline.

^^^ This.

  • Leliana's Song is pre-DAO back-story, so you can play it whenever.
  • Witch Hunt comes after the main story, so play it after DAO.
  • Golems is a stand-alone side story that can be played whenever, but I did it after DAO and think that's best.

I wouldn't recommend Leli's Song before playing game - you learn way too much about her that way, which takes away fun of pealing layers on that onion.

But then, free items...

I was wondering. To those who have the Ultimate edition, how many hours can you get you of the side story DLCs ?

A bunch. It really depends on your style of play, but each one takes about as long as any other "mainline" quest in DAO. If you've done a companion's side-quest, you have an idea of how long one of the DLC quests take.

Thanks. I guess it is rather short then.
Might look for a trader next sale, before doing another run.

As i said, i have finished the game a few times (i only bought UE a few months ago on Steam...) and i have 43 hours in it, and just started Awakening, which is a pretty big game too. But this 43 hours containts no wipes (deaths) as i know the game well, and didn't spend much time talking, and exploring the lore, because i know them too. So i would say for a new player it can be 50-60 hours of gameplay, or even more.

I strongly disliked the Awakening though, while the original game was brilliant

I enjoyed Awakening, though it was largely under the brilliant Origins. What I hated most of all was the antagonist design. I guess making some Darkspawn sentient (humanely I mean) felt like a bad move to me.

I only asked for the DLCs, I also have the main game and played it a number of times. I think I finished 3 times, 2 of which were on Steam, and one of those 2 with Awakening.

Around 50 hours with good knowledge without skipping texts is a good average (base game).

Idk, i would say the DLC's add +7-8 hours to the total gameplay (around one, one and a half per DLC, depends on your playstyle).

DAO - lots of hours.
Awakening - probably half of DAO hours.
Rest - one, maybe two hours each

It is long established that the only order that makes sense canon-wise is as follows:

  1. Dragon Age Origins

  2. Dragon Age Origins Awakening

  3. Fortix 2

  4. Secret of the Magic Crystals

  5. My Little Pony: Friendship Gardens

  6. My Little Pony: Twilight Sparkle, Teacher for a Day

  7. My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie's Party

  8. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition.

  9. Dark Souls 2

  10. My Little Pony Crystal Princess: The Runaway Rainbow

  11. Manhunt

I'd play Leliana's Song first. Then Origins - with Return to Ostagar, the Stone Prisoner, and Warden's Keep being content in Origins. Darkspawn Chronicles for kicks next. Then Awakening. Witch Hunt. Golems of Amgarrak should be last.
