And here we go again. Another bit of nosiness from me.

Which platform do you like better?
iPhone or Android?
I prefer Android. Since I fine the IOS to be user unfriendly.

Also added int he 'other' choice since there might be more that I forgot about.

So, which is yours?

I tried them, but whenever I try to install TWRP, it doesn't boot up when I put it in recovery mode.

Android because it gives you a lot more freedom (even when not rooted) when it comes to customization and some features.

Cyanogenmod(RIP)/LineageOS <3. Nothing better than having an 4 and half year old phone running Android 7.1.2 that gets weekly updates.

Only thing I despise about iphone is the price.. For everyday user I think iOS actually is more user friendly. Being great optimised for its hardware it really does make an outstanding phone. But then again - such a high asking price for a mediocre phone and constant updates making older phones slower. Planned obsolescence. Not saying that doesnt affect android phones, but at least android phones dont cost that much.
With exception of newer flagship ones. But these are usually filled with crazy technology.
I myself really liked sony phones. Until I bought Z1. Screen broke 3 god damn times on its own (problem sony aknowledges and fixes some of the phones) unfortunetely where I bought it didnt even look at it. just said I broke it myself. Contacted Sony.Their answer ? "Sorry you are having such an inconvinience, unfortunetely we cant help anyhow" . So that was last of me getting Sony.
Being short on money and not being brain dead enough to pay for a phone a price that I can get a car for, I got myself used phone. LG G4. And some brain dead moron (previous owner) thought it would be awesome idea to root it and install diferent ROM on it. Which ruined the phone. Many applications dont work, camera doesnt work as good as on original and this and that.
Not saying rooting is bad. But "your needs" usually dont reach that far to root a phone and start fucking it up.

Android, because I can flash a ROM without Google and install only open source apps. Closest thing to a Linux phone until the Librem phone comes out.

I loved my Lumia 640 for over a year, it was the best OS I've ever used, but the lack of apps and support eventually made me switch to Android. I think Apple is way too overpriced for what it offers, I don't see its appeal, I don't think iPhones are worth it.

I voted Other because of Windows Phone

Yeah, me too. I haven't upgraded yet, because I mostly use it for music, and streaming every now and then. I have an 635 I think, was a gift. It's quite durable tbh, dropped it or fell from the bed a few times. Even a few drops of water, but never had a hardware problem (besides the audio jack).

I use my phone for....phone calls. And SMS.

I suppose if I were using my phone for other things, I might want an Android, but I don't, so iPhone for me.

I dont understand, why you are using a very expensive phone only for calls and sms?

iPhone for me.

Why in the world do you need an iPhone if you only call and text?

A couple of my friends only use their phones for calling and texting as well, but both of them have like the cheapest "smart" phones you can buy.

My carrier said, "You can't keep using such outdated technology. We will no longer be supporting it. To ease you into the 21st Century, we will give you a very good deal on a new iPhone. That is, assuming you are willing to sign up for another two years, of course."

I considered the pressure I had been getting from the rest of my family to "get a real phone," then replied, "I've been with you guys for the past 25 years. I think I can stick around for another two."

So, now I have an iPhone.

Ah, I see. Both of my friends who only call/text use pay-as-you-go plans, they do not use any of the big carriers.

Whatever works for you!

Choosing between trusting Apple or Google with my personal data is not really a choice. So, unless there's some real open, non commercial alternative (Firefox OS, Sailfish, Ubuntu Touch etc. basically all failed) I'll just stick with my old non-smartphone. There's no cell service at my home anyway, so I need it very rarely.

I use my iPhone 6S since it was 400ā‚¬ for essentially a new product.

I find Android to be slightly too bloated with the Java trash system and so on. But both are totally valid options, I'd say.
Plus, since iOS is updated for only 30 or so models, it's always usually better optimized and works better, unlike Android where you have tens of thousands of models from which it bricks a few models every update. It'll happen because of the numbers, so it's hard to blame them. I just don't like being worried about updates.

I like my android, never had iPhone and likely won't, simply because of the extraorbitant price on it - so it's not really a pick, I just like what I have. (hungarian taxes and the general state of the market usually pushes prices to 150% of the US counterpart, it's ridiculous considering the salary differences).

If you choose an Android phone, my advice is before you buy it to see if it's popular with the xda community. This will ensure (in most cases - i have S2 which is still supported ) long maintenance of the device and if you wish, you can also leave google eco system immediately.
Good luck:)

i have an iphone, mainly because my wife wanted us to get smartphones and didn't want to wait 6 or so months to see how android looked (it wasn't actually out yet). i don't like using itunes to transfer music / ringtones / etc to my phone, the proprietary lightning connector that i can't share with things like my bluetooth headphones, the lack of micro sd or other data expansion options, and the general lack of control apple gives me. also there aren't humble ios bundles.

my tablet on the other hand is an nvidia shield which runs android. i don't use it nearly as much as my phone and it has its own issues, but i think they'd be less annoying in a phone than what i have in my iphone. i do appreciate iphone's live photos for my pictures of my kids (which would be way better if i could time-shift the still to the best frame of the video) and the reactions in imessage make texting with my wife faster (just thumbs up to indicate yes i can pick up milk on my way home from work). of course having used iphone since the 3gs i have a handful of apps iā€™d need to replace / re-purchase if i switched, plus my whole family is on ios and i don't want less compatibility with them. sometimes i wish i could have convinced my wife to wait and give android a shot because i expected the sort of issues i have with ios from apple, but mostly they seem fairly equivalent in their lists of drawbacks and advantages.
