Another, odd topic. Something I was toying with a couple of days ago in my head while stocking items at work.

I think WAY too much.

So you get what we have here.

So, members of SG. I ask you this- If you could change yourself into ONE animal, what would you choose and why?

Keep in mind what human beings are already animals so t hey don't count. Also, you CAN return to your human form in this, in case anyone is wondering.

Any medium or big herbivore non-avian dinosaur!

OK, hear me out! Those dinosaurs are awesome but extinct, so transforming into a dinosaur would give me and many others an opportunity to admire those interesting cousins of birds!

Not only that, but they have great physical attributes and they are flippin' dinosaurs!
I love dinosaurs.

Thanks for the question, I love having opportunities to talk about my love for dinosaurs.

No problem. I love paleontology too. And I never said the animal couldn't be extinct. So a nice +1 to you.

Also, if you haven't read this, I HIGHLY recommend Raptor Red by Robert T. Bakker. Book is AMAZING! I've read it at least 8 times.

Noble, but you'd die because of the different atmosphere/climate conditions.

I don't think the climate would be too much of an issue in tropical areas.
The atmosphere though...
The show would be amazing, but the crowd would not be the only one out of breath.

A parrot. Flying of course would be awesome, but being able to also talk would be a blast. I would just spend the day messin' with people.

I like them very much, they are sweet, a bit slow, grumpy/dangerous when it go around food and sex and a bit stinky :-D

Depends on a few things- would I be able to change at will, would my clothes come back when I change back (yeah, none of that Jusenkyo stuff where the transformation trigger is something you can't always be prepared for and it keeps happening at the most inconvenient of times... and it leaves your clothes behind) and would I receive the skills necessary to actually function as that animal?
If the answer is "yes" to all of those, then I guess I'd go with any reasonably agile and resilient bird. Such as... I dunno, a duck for example. Free fast travel around the city! :D

You can turn back and forth at will.
Your clothes do NOT come back when you change. They drop where you leave them.
Since you are turning into said animal, all physical attributes and abilities of the animal in question do function.

Well, then I guess I'd have to add "large and strong enough to be able to fly a bag of clothes with it" to the list of bird traits. Such as... I dunno... A stork? An eagle? I don't really know much about birds. :X

By the third point, I mean if turning into a bird would immediately result in me knowing how to fly as a bird. Because otherwise it would be pretty useless and debilitating. ^_^'

Works for me. :D
Not sure if the throat pouch can be used as a clothes bag though. I'd probably have to stick to using a regular bag and holding it with the beak. ^_^

A big dog has decent camoflage in populated areas, has few natural predators, gets food/cuddles from friendly people, and is allowed to be violent in protection of others without worry of explanation.

It also gets castrated if animal control ever catches it. So better make sure you never get hit by an unnoticed tranquilizer dart. ;P

This is just me wondering, but aren't we mammals > animals already?
I would love to be an Eagle + Lion so a Sphinx

If we were just animals, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

I'd like to be a Harpy or Royal Hawk (Harpia harpyja), flight naturally and to eat meat I don't need any else. This is a bird from Latin America where I find myself so I wanted to represent my region!

Ok, first, what would YOU choose???

I've been deciding, but each time I feel too many disadvantages for my human brain distract from what could be an otherwise interesting existence. A beagle, or a red panda, or a fox, or lynx or something. I dunno.

A dolphin.

For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.” -- Douglas Adams.

Thank you for all the fish.

A bird.
But what kind? Hmmm.
Well, you mentioned dropping my clothes where I transform, so one that fits through the cat flap, so I can just use my house to transform in.
But I don't want to get attacked by cats, so nothing too small.
I want to soar, so not a woodpigeon, they fly funny, too much work.
So a small-ish bird of prey then, would love the eye sight.
A Falcon for speed or a Barn Owl for stealth.

I'd love to fly, but I think I'd become a fox.

Seems like a strange choice since it's not particularly strong, fast, or skilled. The reason is simply... I like foxes. They look like cats... except dogs. The best of both worlds, really.

I'd go with an octopus, you can breathe under the water, you can mask yourself, you can get in anything as long as there's a hole. Pretty awesome, I think :D
