We don't take kindly to playing games here on Steamgifts. We collect games and talk about backlogs.

I've never actually tried the Chronicles ones. You're not the first person to recommend them, though. I might have to give them a try...

They're not conventionally the same games as the rest of the AC franchise, but they're a part of the storyline. So don't get your impressions of AC from it.

The good thing that they are back.
The bad thing that they don't make new games anymore

I mean all these AC, TCGR, FC are just clones of previous games. it looks like that they were happy to steal this idea from EA's FIFA

I guess they won't gift me a Steam copy of my AC Valhalla Ultimate Edition which I already own at Ubi, for easier access with my Steam Deck. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't think you'd be able to anyway, store page states

"Warning: This title uses 3rd-party DRM (Denuvo Anti-Tamper)."

which is likely unsupported by proton layer, just like any other crap like "Easy AntiCheat"

It actually already runs on Steam Deck. It just would be even easier directly from Steam.

That's good news, I guess... I'm not sure if I'll ever buy AssCreed Valhalla, but I could be tempted to eventually purchase the Splinter Cell remake and if that one's on Steam, that'd be even better.

In the same period that Sony & MS started bringing their exclusive titles to PC, and EA returning to Steam .. somehow someone in Ubi thought it was a good idea to cut themselves off the most dominant PC games store ..
At least they didn't stay away for almost a decade like EA

They were offered a big bag probably by Epic. At that point in time, Epic was earning a shit ton from Fortnite, and them managing to make a deal with Ubisoft was insane. Ubisoft got the bag from Epic and people who hate Epic but want to play Ubi games so they bought them directly via Ubisoft, and are now returning to Steam for even more money. Literally a win-win for them. Their games sold great, despite not being on Steam. So, in truth, Ubisoft wasn't hurt by this decision at all.

Lol, well glad I got them cheap during their free coupon promotions.
Now I just need to buy everything again on Steam

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Haha yes
Soon they announce a genius idea of the new boss in their marketing department, a beautiful launcher/data collector! And that their games will be exclusive on there. Also, a cellphone app, because it's so much better than just a browser website...

Well, it's good news then. Because of Uplay, I still favour GOG for Ubisoft titles though. However it's most likely not soon for Anno 1800 to be released on GOG, perhaps I can wait for a -75% or more discount on Steam.

You know it is possible that Ubisoft might be looking to bring their Ubi+ subscription service to Steam (just like EA) .. and if so then first they will have to bring the rest of their titles to Steam.

Over 200 hours into Valhalla and awaiting the final patch with such excitement.

I do hope Far Cry 6 and Watch Dogs Legion are added to Steam soon ... plan on buying them so if they are on Steam the better ... but I still have a backlog of games so isn't too much of a hurry.

But... but... 30% cut bad hurr durr gonna partner with Tim, Tim good, only 12% cut.

Turned out, 12% doesn't mean crap when there is not enough buyers huh?

There probably is enough buyers, though. But they're not gonna keep the illusion of eternal growth by limiting the number of potential buyers.

Nah, you'd be surprised but the amount of buyers on EGS is jokingly low. Well, I mean, it's okay-ish for a storefront, but only as long as you don't compare it to Steam userbase.

The amount of monthly active users is a whopping 62m number, but...Overall, in 2021 people actually spent $840m, and only 300m of them are on third-party games. So, other 540m must be Fortnite alone. Maybe there's some from Rocket League as well, since it became their inner studio in 2020.

According to a press release, its launch was also the best-selling Ubisoft PC launch the publisher has seen, driven by record sales on the Ubisoft Store.

Maybe on egs, but not overall.
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla sees the franchise's best launch sales so far
Assassin's Creed Valhalla Is Ubisoft's Best-Selling PC Game Ever

These news are from the end of 2020, btw. So they sold even more by now.

But I was talking about Ubisoft's exodus from Steam to EGS though and how they justified it because Steam cuts 30% from them and EGS is taking only 12%. And now they're coming back to greedy Gaben again.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I get it. And you're right, they're pathetic little hypocrite liars. But they didn't just leave Steam for EGS. They mainly left Steam for their own launcher, where no one takes any share of the profit but them. EGS was always secondary to this. But now that those taps have dried out, they need to pull something out of their hat to make this fiscal year their best yet. And then something for the next year, and then the next and so on.

All PR talk, nothing new. They were offered probably a shit ton of money to not sell on Steam and took it. Now that the deal ended they can freely come back to Steam and keep on making the big bucks. Great business by Ubisoft. They got the bag from Epic, made certain players who wanted to play their games but disliked Epic buy from their store where they keep 100% of the profit, or if people bought games from Epic, the 12% cut wouldn't take that much from their profit. Basically a win-win for them.

I just wish they can drop their crappy launcher on steam.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Why would they do that? They have an ecosystem on PC that revolves around the launcher. Why drop it? Makes zero sense. Their launcher has achievements for their games, a separate friends list, etc.
