I second that. It´s not good. It´s brilliant. I enjoyed every single minute in it... I did not even use Fast travel. I wish I could forget everything about it and play it again, experiencing everything again for the first time. I´m playing New Vegas at the moment and don´t enjoy it as much as Fallout 3 (although many claim NV is the better game).
Edit: Also wait for when it´s on sale and get it for 5 bucks with all the DLC. It´s fairly often on sale, so you don´t need to wait that long.

It's my all-time favorite and what you just said is what I'm saying for years :P I wish I could delete my memories.

Owning both and have spent alot of hours in both titles, i would dare say Fallout 3 is alot more interisting but NV, being newer, means it made some improvements over F3, mostly being related to how the game works and the extra stuff you can do in the wasteland.
Fallout 3 is by far better in story, the exploring side to the game was good, this game is likely to be more glitchy aswell. NV, might have better dlc compared to F3 overall (not that F3 dlc is bad). Then there are the addons made by players that make both games extra-fun to play.

Thats not true, the metro railways can be repetitive, or boring, but just that parts. The rest is pure addictive!

It depends a lot on the type of game you like. It has a nice big open world, a rather depressing setting and a lot of freedom to play the type of character you feel like playing.
Consider it a post apocalyptic Skyrim with some extra bells and whistles.

Yes, there are multiple paths to proceed in the game, and story-wise you can either choose to be a hero or foe (e.g. early in the game, you must decide on the fate of a small town you encounter. One deciding factor: Do you need supplies from them?)
In addition, the side-quests can be time consuming (in positive speak, engrossing), but the experience and powerful items you will get make them all the more worthwhile (experience is linked to gaining skill points).
I personally recommend it to anyone looking for a game to play for days and weeks.

YES!!! I've dished out almost 100+ hours for the game on my Xbox. Definitely worth it :D

I prefer New Vegas, I just thought that Fallout 3 was too boring and linear. There is only 1 faction that you have to fight with in the end, while in New Vegas, there is 4 main factions which you can side with. There's just a lot more variety in New Vegas, I think.

The game is amazing. Large with countless quest and lots and lots to discover.
Same goes for "Fallout: New Vegas". It's pretty much the same thing in a different setting. You should get both games. Like the TES games (Skyrim, Oblivion, etc.) FO3 and F:NV provide hundreds of hours of gameplay each. You will be playing these games for months and months.

It's on my top ten favorite list. I liked it way better than New Vegas (especially with mods), it's world is really unique. I'd definitely recommend you getting it, I suggest buying a GOTY version with all the expansions. I finished the game twice (including ALL the side quests, and finding all the unique weapons, collectibles + DLC).

I found it to be a good game. I like New Vegas better though. I also found Fallout 3 to be kind of crash prone. I never really got it to run without an eventual drop to the desktop every now and again. Despite the crashes, it's a very interesting game. lot's of mods for it too. Also it is/was a gfwl game. I don't know if steam removed that part or not I haven't fired it up in a while.

It's very good only if you like RPG, especially post-apo. Otherwise you should not play it because you'll find it boring and painful. World is mostly empty and harsh, you'll meet more weird creatures than people, you'll suffer from radiation and cold desert winds, and you'll cry like a little bitch in abandoned house while Deathclaws outside wants to eat your brain.

You are so right... Fallout 1 is one of my all-time favorite games.
To the OP: if you are not afraid of old times graphics, I strongly advice to start with F1.

When it comes to story, I'd suggest Fallout New Vegas. The ending of Fallout 3 is very unsatisfying. Mind you, the game is good and its a good suggestion but the story late game is a bit weak. New Vegas has a better plot IMO. Just wait for steam summer sales. You'll get both games in game of the year edition for around 2.5 quid or less during the sale. It comes up quite often.

Good game but bad fallout game. Choices are too black or white, there are no neutral actions.

Would give it a 6 out of 10 I guess (if you wouldn't compare it to the older games in the series, otherwise it's like 2/10), because:
1) Choices are irrelevant;
2) Not that good animation;
3) Guns don't feel like guns (more like a paper versions);
4) Every location feels and looks the same;
5) Too fucking much of the shades of grey.
