Update, October 16, 2021
DDO code is reactivated, use DDOQUESTS2021 in-game for access to the free quests available in Dungeons & Dragons online.

Update, September 23 2021

New code for acquiring all current LOTRO quest packs: LOTROQUESTS2021 (1/Account, active through November 30th, 2021)
Note that this contains two additional packs over the previous promotion's code. More information on the full promotion available at https://www.lotro.com/en/getready

Original June 2020 thread follows:

DDO Promotion Details

To start, players can continue to enjoy all of our quests, raids, and expansion content for free through August 31st, 2020. We would also like to provide a way for you to move forward with your gaming when our event eventually comes to an end, so in the coming days we will be providing a Coupon Code that will let you acquire all currently-available adventure packs permanently on your account(s)! However, you will need to act quickly, as this Coupon Code is available to redeem through August 31st, 2020.

The Coupon Code is: DDOfreequests (1/Account, available to redeem through August 31st, 2020)
https://ddo.com/en/news/free-questing-coupon-and-vip-update-%E2%80%93-thank-you-standing-stone-games

Edit: You can also activate HAPPY14 to acquire an additional exclusive game item. [>>]

Additionally, two of the game's expansions [I recall paying $50 or so for each of them] are now available for $1 in game points (an amount which is easily farmable in-game, especially for new accounts [which get bonus points per game server played, which are then usable cross-server] ):

Additionally, we will be conducting a sale on two of our expansions in the DDO Store! When the sale is active, players will be able to pick up the quests included in Menace of the Underdark and The Shadowfell Conspiracy for 99 DDO Points.

As there doesn't appear to be a way of activating codes out-of-game, to claim the code one will need to install the game, and then pull up the in-game store (accessible either via "Buy Account Upgrades" in the character selection screen or by clicking the red Dungeons & Dragons icon in the lower left of the screen once loaded into the game with a character). Note that coupon codes are case-sensitive.

Users in this thread are indicating that the current install size of the game appears to come out to 13.4GB.

Fair warning, the patching process can take a fair bit of time [ie, several hours] to complete. Reddit comments suggest that this is primarily an issue with the Steam version's base install never having been updated- thus, those looking for a quicker install may want to utilize the non-Steam installer instead (you'll end up playing through the same launcher, so there's not any real difference between playing DDO as an add-to-Steam-library game or as a native Steam title).

DDO Newcomer Tips

Once installed, you can enable the 64-bit client within the launcher, by clicking the ▽ in the top right and going to "Options...". It's disabled by default due to compatability concerns (older systems aside, it doesn't work properly with certain Nvidia cards), so you'll want to disable it if you're getting any problems, but it can noticably improve gameplay and loading times for those it works for.

In-game, I'd recommend going into the game options and turning off the chat filter in the Gameplay, unless you're inclined to favor having such enabled. Also in the Gameplay submenu, you can disable the "items based on character class" seting. This generally yields better drops, especially if you're not playing to archetype with your class, but it can be worth leaving on if you're looking for something class-associated, such as wands for a wizard or pet collars for a pet class.

Within the UI Settings submenu, you can disable hints (when desired) as well as disable prioritzation of enemies over interactables in combat [this is generally desirable, as disabling it doesn't automatically prioritize non-combatants, it simply no longer fights you on selecting non-combatants, which can make it easier to complete certain quest objectives].

For graphics settings and other menu elements, I'd recommend hovering over any given element, as the game does generally provide details via hovertext. If you're having performance issues, I'd recommend starting by minimizing shadow-related settings, followed by reflection and bloom settings. For non-English-native-speakers, note that the "Frill" setting handles elements such as grass and other minor graphical embellishments.

Chat box tabs can be dragged out, and then reorganized by dragging them into the input box of any other chat box. I'd recommend reorganizing into the order of Party > Guild > General > Combat, as by my experience that works best. You'll also have a much, much more appreciable experience if you disable loot information from the Party tab (via rightclicking on the tab).

Hotbars can be locked/unlocked via the key combination of CTRL and the + key. I personally use the rotate symbol to make hireling/pet bars vertical and place them to the far right, where they're out of the way of personal hotbars, so that may be a method which you may also wish to try.

Recommended character planner | Alternative 1 | Alternative 2
Note that none of these are entirely up to date with fine details, so it's still best to look to the DDOWiki first, and then just use the planners for organizing your data. All the more so as the wiki lists bugged elements which the planners may not.

Just a question, do you need to activate those ingame? I used to play many MMOS as a teenager and these look like the ones I played (old graphics and that).

Yes, you need to redeem those codes ingame, but the games are free. I know this response is late, but there are new codes currently active. :)

So, how long will it take a newbie to get 1$ worth of in game currency for buying one expansion pack, on average?
Noticed this thread when it started but completely forgot about it, downloading now to at least use the codes.

A non-new player could grind that out in a day of dedicated play. More typically, that'd be about 2-3 days of play for a normal~casual player. Running low level quests will significantly increase the gain rate, and some diehards with heavily developed characters can manage a much better rate to begin with.

Meanwhile, a new player can probably get that within an hour? Probably a quarter that, if they're in a good group. With new player bonuses (which can be repeated once per server, so for optimum speed, you could hop servers) you can get 100 store points after just 50 favor [Normally (and in addition to new player bonuses), you get 25 store points each 100 favor].

Quests have a minimum of 2 base favor, with most having 3, 4, or 5 base favor. At highest difficulty for a quest (which is locked by default- you'd need to join a party with someone who can open the difficulty, be VIP, play through once on each preceding difficulty, or reincarnate a charater twice to be able to access the difficulty) that's tripled, so a typical single quest will net you 9, 12, or 15 favor. Meaning that if you're in a party that can open on Elite difficulty, you can manage 9 - 15 favor on a 2 - 6 minute newbie quest.

There's some later quests that have higher base favor, and can be farmed fairly quickly, but they're not new-player friendly. Conversely, the 3-5 base favor ones encompass most of the quests in the game, regardless of their difficulty, and most low level quests are absurdly fast and easy- meaning that low level runs generally are very favor/store point friendly.

Basically, so long as you join a party, you should be able to clear favor fast. Do note that your first toon on a server will start as "snowy side" of the tutorial area, meaning they can't party with anyone who isn't also "snowy side"- ie, anyone who hasn't completed snowy side once that server (after which they're always "sunny side"). I believe you can skip that now, either by talking to the port agent on the pier or by travelling to the Keep on the Borderlands area, so it's mostly just a heads up that you'll want to do that first thing, if you want to be able to join groups.

If I'm mistaken and you can't skip that, then I'd recommend joining the Hardcore server- it's by far the most active, as well as only just opened to non-VIPs this season, so it has the most snowy side characters being created. You can also freely transfer characters (even ones who've died) to another server once a Hardcore season ends.

My head is extra muddled at the moment, so do let me know if anything I've said is unclear or lacking detail. :)

Well, I made this a few days ago. I farmed enough favor thru 4 servers just to buy the expansions. You just need to reach 5 total favor for the whooping 50 DDO points reward, completing the short quests in the village can do it (can't remember the names rn, and I uninstalled the game cos hopefully I'll play later in the future: the one about finding the scroll, grinding up to elite, and heyton's rest will do the job.

There is a good trick: you will get 50 DDO points for the first 5 favor you get on a server - and the first 3 quests in the starter village give 6 favor in total. So finish these 3 quests on 4 different servers (it can be done pretty fast), and you will get 200 DDO points, which will give you both of the 99 points expansions.

I am feeling a little like an idiot. I already have a StandingStone account (https://myaccount.standingstonegames.com/home.php) because of Dungeons & Dragons Online. So, with that account I download the launcher, but I can't enter the game (No subscription to LOTRO found). So, I try to create a new account, but I can't, because I already have an account with my username and my email address.

I think DDO and LOTRO accounts are separate but you can enter with both on the standingstone website. For LOTRO I have a "Florin" for DDO I have "Florin96"

I speak about when it was turbine managing it but i do think this would be a pretty similar situation.

That happened to me time ago, but fortunately it was way clear than it is now.
There were a support form where you could request a lotro/ddo key for your account instead creating a new account because your account was registered to the opposite game. Then they reply with the key and you use it at my account site

Check what Sooth said because if it works it'll be faster than waiting a reply several days.

It's ingame in the cash shop menu.

Thank you a lot for the code, got the new zones added since last year. Overall a good game with a nice community, but be aware that this game has quite huge latency outside of USA (and even there it's pretty mediocre, West especially). Around 90-120ms in EU.

The account management system is really outdated, hopefully they'll give it an overhaul.

I'm not playing the game, but it does look interesting and I tested it out before. So I got this just in case I decided to play one day as it would be great to have all of the DLC and things. So for anyone wondering how exactly you redeem the code you have to download the game and get to their launcher. Even if you log into your StandingStoneGames account you won't be able to do anything with the code there. Once you download the LOTRO client and then update you login and it will send you to the character creation screen(not sure why my character is gone), you want to just exit this or create a character if you want first. Then once of out the character creation go to the top right and click on "Get Points And Account Upgrades" and it will ask you if you wish to open the store in a web browser, agree to it. Your web browser then takes you to "https://www.lotro.com/LOTROStore" where you'll have all your account info and a section that say "Redeem Code" with a key icon next to it. Enter the code and all the stuff will be applied to your account. You have to be logged in via the game client to see the store otherwise you'll just see an account creation screen.

If you go under "history" this is what it will show: "Quest Pack: Angmar; Quest Pack: Battle of the Black Gate; Quest Pack: Blood of Azog; Quest Pack: Central Gondor; Quest Pack: East Gondor; Quest Pack: Enedwaith; Quest Pack: Eregion; Quest Pack: Eriador Bundle; Quest Pack: Evendim; Quest Pack: Forochel; Quest Pack: Great River; Quest Pack: Legacy of the Necromancer; Quest Pack: Lothlorien; Quest Pack: March of the King; Quest Pack: Mists of Wilderland; Quest Pack: Misty Mountains; Quest Pack: North Downs; Quest Pack: Old Anórien; Quest Pack: The Vales of Anduin; Quest Pack: The Wildwood; Quest Pack: Trollshaws; Quest Pack: West Gondor; Quest Pack: Where Dragons Dwell; Quest Pack: Wildermore; Region Pack: Far Anórien; The Further Adventures of Bilbo Baggins".

Note that the expansion quests (Moria, Isengard, Mordor, etc) are not included in the code, but they are heavily discounted for a month and can be purchased for 6x99 points (8x99 points if you get the two instance cluster packs too).
Either you can purchase 600 points for about 8$/6€, which will also unlock the premium perks for your account permanently (F2P accounts without any purchase have some gold and chat limitations), or you can get these points by farming some achievements (for instance killing X Orcs or discovering every ruins in a region).

Try resetting your password to one without any special characters (ie, one with only numbers and upper/lowercase letters). If you've already done that, or if that doesn't help, then your best bet is probably to contact Standing Stone Games' support team about the matter.

Also, if you hadn't already stumbled on the information, this might be why your password was unset in the first place: https://massivelyop.com/2021/05/17/lord-of-the-rings-online-resets-neglected-account-passwords/

That's the standard message for when servers are down, or you otherwise can't connect to the authentication server. There's a tweet just a half hour after your last comment saying the worlds are back up, so that fairly certainly should have been the issue.
