I guess, as long as you have some cable to connect to it.

That -could- work, but I guess you can try that before SteamOS ever releases. The case of USB really depends on your TV, some don't allow anything with a power consumption bigger than a USB drive.

Oh, ok well i am not smart at all when it comes to televisions.

no, most likely a hdmi cable or possibly a dvi cable.

HOW ABOUT STOP ASKING AND WAIT FOR ACTUAL INFO. FROM THE PEOPLE WHO MADE IT?

Meh we true gamers are born with no patience when it comes to playing video games.

Nothing to do with it. All these fucking discussions and threads popping up in chat rooms and on sites about the announcements, all this idle speculation, people asking OTHER GAMERS WHO KNOW AS LITTLE AS THEM about deeper stuff concerning SteamOS.. It's fucking annoying and stupid. There's even people saying stuff like "yes it will only run games that support Linux (as it's Linux based)" - while saying it's Linux based means very little specifically, as how it's implemented is just as important as saying something is based off a particular OS. Just fucking morons bothering other people with questions concerning something they know the exact same info. about, and even bigger morons pretending they know exactly what's going to happen and are actually giving answers as if they're Valve employees.

It isn't exactly a complicated question. You don't need to be the developer of an operating system to know whether or not a computer running that OS will be able to output a display to a TV.

.. "Will SteamOS work on any television? I dont have the latest high-tech television. xD"
1) "I don't have the latest high-tech television" doesn't tell us anything about what kind of TV he wants whatever he's asking about to work with.
2) It's asking about compatibility of an OS with a TV. The question doesn't even make any sense whatsoever.
3) Even if it did make sense by substituting "Steambox" for "SteamOS" in that sentence, we still know nothing more about what kind of outputs the Steambox will have, what kind of cables it will be supplied with, or anything else, than OP himself does. Nothing.
Now, for your comment. The ability for a computer to output to a TV, or lack thereof, is purely a hardware issue. Not an OS issue. Every PC will have a video output of some sort. Whether or not you have the right cables and inputs on your TV (or proper converter blocks / cables to convert from your video cards' native output to whatever your TV's inputs use) determines whether or not you can output to a TV. Nothing about the OS has any bearing on this whatsoever, barring an OS that has no video output in it..

Nonono xP i do have a somewhat new television from like 2010
Comment has been collapsed.
If it's HD ready or FullHD it will work for sure but I dont think they will support the very old ones with a resolution of 768x576 or 640x480. Dont think they still sold that old garbage in 2010 so your TV should be fine ;p Or were you talking about.. installing the OS on a TV? Wouldn't count on that :p

I think he means the last part "installing the OS on a TV". And that, is a no go.

The TV will act just as a monitor, won't it?
You'll still need a PC(or even a console?) on witch to install the OS.

This reminds me of when I used to do DSL tech support and people would call in with issues like:
"I can't turn on my PC."
"Uh-huh, call whoever you bought it from. Why would you call us about that anyway?" /boggle
"Because I want to get on the internet and I can't, so are you going to fix your problem here with me or what?"
Yea, the end result is really all "Some" consumers see, and not the parts in the middle...

Best answer - Does your TV have an HDMI or DVI port? Yes? You can run it.
No - Probably not...but wait and see, maybe Valve hired a Wizard.

Aww i think this helped cause i have found out i have a HDMI port.
