It's how society works, you ask to be living in it, be provided ease of access to food, internet, so others ask things of you too. You can choose to live as a hermit alone somewhere too and not have these problems.
There is more to life than greed, pettiness and daily grind. But those are small fleeting moments, while the 3 mentioned before you see every day, so it's normal to feel that way. Think of it like walking through a big desert, it sucks, but every once in a while you find an oasis and that keeps you going.
The thing about uniting and pursuing grander goals is something that happens naturally, not when you want it to. If you look at all the times people united in the past, they needed a strong reason to do that. After that was achieved, there is still life to be lived after so people pursue their own goals again. Of course with information denial and fear is how this has been abused to unite people for a same goal, usually a malicious one.
Sure, we get scientists working on technological breakthroughs. But the fact is we don't have the technology yet for immortality or a death star. And I don't think throwing more people in the mix as scientists will actually speed up the process.

Think about how you feel now. What if you existed in the medieval times? Look how far we came, we got huge cities, planes, trains, computers, internet. Is this not something we should be satisfied with? Of course there is always the greed to achieve something more, but my point is over time there is progress, you just barely see it in this daily grind.
Well yeah, every day will be the same if you expect others to change, everyone has their own dreams to chase and their own daily grind to get there. There is nothing left to do there except chase your own dreams if you want to find a different day.
But this is where you are wrong, you just have to embrace a bit of chaos to find interesting adventures. For example, a few days ago chrono announced it would close, 2 guys said they wanted a game key. I had leftover coins so I got the game and told them to do some kind of competition to win it. Now this was a discord server for gamers who achievement hunt, so I was expecting this competition to be game related, instead I got a rap. Were my expectations betrayed? Sure. Was I still happy with the adventure? Yes.
I think game developers enjoy others enjoying their work. Like artists enjoy people appreciating their creations.
