I recently played Civilization V and I can say that I loved that game, reminds me of my child self enjoyed playing demo version of Age of Empires that came off from Windows 98 CD.

Now that makes me to look up for AoE II HD on Steam for next summer sale, but from some feedback I gathered it seems that this HD game is glitchy and like half-finished, even some pointed out it has game-breaking bugs.

So for AoE II HD owners, what do you think of the game? Is this game worth to to buy?

If you liked the "original", and can get it for cheap during a sale, I'd say yes.

Steam Multiplayer is great, but it's still peer-to-peer which means a lot of games lag, for the rest not much has changed save for a few textures. There's some really cool mods on Steam aswell, sadly lots of mods work with the same file which means you often can't run them together.

Not worth buying for the full price, but very nice for 5$

Thanks for the info! Now you are convincing me to buy it :D Although I doubt it will fall to $5 this summer...

Yeah. That's good advice. I bought it and I'm quite disappointed that I paid to much for a game I already own:/

If you have AoE 2 then no...

If you don't have it: Get it cheap on a sale.

Well I never played AoE II before, just AoE demo. I presume they aren't much different.
I still might want to get it for workshop support and achievements ;)

I've got it. They've patched it up since launch, really nice to play now.

Like others have said, the multiplayer can have pretty bad lag, so you might want to take that into consideration.

I had both the original AoE 1 and 2 and didn't get into Civ until this year and I enjoy both. AoE 2 is no different to 1 in terms of mechanics so if you enjoyed 1's trial version you'll probably enjoy 2 HD. I plan on picking it up this summer too.

The only thing that really changed from 1 to 2 was graphics, era, units / buildings (to coincide with the era shift) and the cheats.

Most people seem to prefer 2 to 1 but looking back, I seem to remember preferring 1 (well Rise of Rome expansion) more than 2.

TL;DR: Buy it on sale if you enjoyed the trial and still think you'll enjoy it.

Only if you are a AOE II fan. Otherwise skip it or wait for a crazy discount.

I'd also like to know how they managed to port a PC game to PC.

Get it only if you dont have AOE 2 because nothing exept graphics is refreshed.

Well it does allow the game to be easily played on modern systems (without having to do that yourself).. the higher res textures are a bonus, the modern matchmaking as well (as the old game was over Zone I believe which does not exist anymore)..
