I'd like to create a giveaway for a private (and temporary) Steam group and only include users which qualify (I'll post the rules in another thread). Is there a way to send the link to qualified users directly? I'd rather avoid the hassle of adding people as friends just to be able to send them the link via Steam chat.

Thanks!

Can't you just temporarily whitelist them instead?

With 250 people in my whitelist, it would kind of defeat the purpose. I plan to do many whitelist-based giveaways, but want to experiment with one that's completely detached from it.

you could drop a message in their profiles, but some/most people disable their wall for non-friends.

Would this make the link visible to others who view their profile?

Yep.

Go to their profile, and on the right in the drop-down menu it gives you an option to invite them to join your group.

That sounds convenient enough, thanks! I think I'll give it a chance, and if the option is blocked I'll send them a Friend invitation.

I just sent you the first invite to the group - I hope you don't mind that I didn't specify the rules or the games yet, but you match the criteria already :-)

I can now confirm that your suggestion works perfectly! No issues with people disabling anything and it takes only a few clicks to send the invitation. 23 out of 23 so far :-)

Perhaps I could implement a function to my ArchiBoT which allows to send a message to given users, this way you could just send him a list of steamIDs and he'll notify them.

That would still require from them to add the bot to the friend list though.

Yes, that's what MuahahahaMeow suggested. Seems to do what I need, let's just hope not many people block it.

you should remove your name from the pic (the one in top-right menu). it's very sensitive info which you shouldn't ever reveal.
there were some streamers at twitch that got their accounts hacked/blocked because the hackers knew their log in names and reset their passwords.

You can always comment on one's older giveaway - basically noone checks them, so it's safe to say it's a private message, and they'll get a notification if you do so.

That's a really nice idea, but the user would need to have many giveaways to make it difficult for others to find my post.

Well, only the creator of the giveaway gets a notification when you post. You can just delete your post after they get your message?

Most people don't browse the comments of old giveaways...
(Though, who knows what may be hidden there :3)

I just created the thread with the giveaway rules:

http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/UVQxC/write-something-interesting-insightful-or-helpful-and-get-a-chance-to-win-a-game-of-your-choice

Do you still think it's a "safe" option?

I'm not sure what you mean by "safe". :3
No guarantees that all the people you want to reply will reply,
but everyone who replies should get the memo...

I'm new to the concept of creating Steam groups, so just want to make sure there's no way to abuse the link and be added to the group without me intentionally inviting this user.
