I'm with you on that. I kinda did it with the new Amnesia, and even that was great, although not made by them specifically. Anything that's Frictional is good for me at this point.

System Shock 1 and 2 were great. If they made a proper clone of that game it would be amazing. There's really no way to top SHODAN as a villain, though.

You're the only person I've seen so far saying A Machine for Pigs was good. What made it so for you? I've heard nothing but disappointment about how it took a lot of what made the first game good out of it.

Well, I guess I come from a different place than those who disliked the game, since I pretty much finished all Penumbras before ever trying Amnesia: The Double D. Long story short, A Machine For Pigs is exactly like Penumbra: Black Plague, but without some rather annoying puzzles that game sported. It even matches the game's length, which is around 4-6 hours according to players who completed it (I'm at 3 hours something, but I don't think I'm near the end yet). It's pretty damn scary, but not as scary as The Dark Descent was; and it's definitely a hell of a lot more scary than any Penumbras so far.

I think people who hate it come from two different places. One had the first Amnesia in mind for this, but that was pretty much a horror masterpiece and it's unlikely that they could repeat it without copypasting everything. The other comes from the Dear Esther despising crowd who will bash the game without actually playing it, or just go into it thinking that this will be another walking simulator and nothing else. I've only seen this latter one on 4chan and the community threads though, but the levels of shitposting there are reason enough to not rely on their opinions.

Bottom line, if you're a long time Frictional fan, you won't be disappointed because it's exactly like some old Penumbra games, but a bit more scary and tense. On the other hand, it's not as scary as the first one was, but to say it's not scary at all would be an overstatement. It's good for Frictional fans, and bad for Amnesia fans. I'm glad I'm in the former group.

I've heard that, for the most part, it isn't that scary. It's creepy, sure, but not scary. And that was from someone who loved the first game. I want to give it a go, and I think I played a Penumbra years before, but I think I'm going to walk into it with low expectations.

New Amnesia was not developed by them but by The Chinese Room. And even so, it was a nice game even though it wasn't much of a "game" and it was worse than The Dark Descent.

They said in the past that it's going to be some kind of science fiction game, with some horror elements, but it's not entirely focused on it. They tryin to dwelve into new themes and such. Pretty interesting. But again, they may have changed their mind during develeopment.
Im ultra excited anyway.
