I don't delete often "just in case"..., but still I'm at only "3.48 GB (23%) of 15 GB used" on Gmail.
It's perpetually open in a browser tab, and the favicon notifies me on new Inbox mail. Most things bypass the inbox with filters though. Also, I have a few hundred email addresses that forward to my main one, so I can just stop using the address instead of jumping through unsubscription hoops (habit developed as a reaction to the spammerific pre-Gmail days of yore when unsubscribing might actually subscribe you to a bunch of other lists). Unfortunately, creating new email addresses with Gmail isn't as straightforward as it used to be, so now I usually use one of my main "miscellaneous" addresses with plus addressing, hoping that whoever coded the email registration didn't fuck that up.

If you use FireFox, I'm going to recommend this addon. It will check the currently logged in GMail account without a tab being open. I have mine set for 5 minutes.

Well since I use IMAP on my mobile, I check them 24/7?! But I get like 5 a day.

I check them constantly since I've got a ton of business related mails to deal with, as well as that tiny hope I might just win another SteamGift giveaway. That said, I have folders for all the subscriptions, and those are full to the brim of unread messages.

I check a few times a day. I'm not really sure why, though. I never get anything of a personal nature. But it can be nice to browse the spam folder and pretend that the emails are genuine.
Oooh, apparently I can find local sluts for free! There are LOTS of people in (my) area looking to hook up right now .

Whip it out and walk down the street. See if you find one of these sluts or a policeman first.
GO!

Unsubscribed from every crap, deleting all useless mails and moving all receipts on a separate folder. The result is barely 2 mails a week if we don't count orders and receipts.
When the icon pops up i always know that it's something important.

You are not unique. I do the same.
I read all my messages all days. I put a flag on it if i have to reply it later or it's important, as i barely have free time lately.
Have a nice day :)

I check my email daily when I get the chance, once every 3 day tops. Never had more than 10 unread messages. I bother to unsubscribe from crap and create auto-delete filters for the rest. How unique am I?
