Because while Edge builds upon the foundations of IE, it is not the same thing as IE. One of the main advantages with Edge was that they decided to get rid of a good chunk of old stuff that was mainly in there for legacy compatibility, but which was either slowing things down, or worse yet, was a security risk. They could easily have done this with just a major update/overhaul of IE, but then that would have been a PR-issue, as people could claim that "well, it used to work in IE".

Last version of IE was good... its name however made its own reputation.

I would argue that everything from 8 and forward can be considered good. Heck, 6 was not that bad when it was release, compared to its competitors at least, but due to people not updating their browser, a lot of people kept on using it way past the point where it was a big security risk (IE 6 came with XP, and I guess a lot of people did not own legal copies of XP, so they could not get any updates, so it was still the most commonly used browser as late as 2009). This probably did not help IE's reputation

Because Edge isn't the same thing as IE, just like Firefox isn't the same as Netscape Navigator.

That's why I'm trying to use DuckDuckGo as my default search engine. So far it's not working, because searches for my region are almost useless.

I'm using now Chromodo, I have to say it's pretty good browser (better than chrome, because chrome uses too much ram)

It's browser from comodo antyvirus.

Also used Comodo Dragon, but something started to fail...

I rely on too many chrome/firefox extensions, but I'll check it out.

generally it's on chrome engine and you can connect your email and get all chrome customization.
Additionally doesn't use so much memory and is safer (probably, because it's antyvirus browser :P)

and you can get there all chrome extensions or plugins.

Well, the main project is named Chromium so it's only another release for the same browser (Engine wise) actually. :P It should be about same RAM usage, tbh. What are the differences for you?

I can't tell details, because I have used chrome very very short time (like 1 day). Sorry can't help.

I used old versions of Opera before.

ah, it's not the same RAM usage, Chromodo uses 2/3 of what Chrome is using. I have checked it some days before, the difference is huge in this matter.

Opera. For years now. Was the best browser hands-down, the one all other stole ideas from. Now it's like Chrome (same engine), just a little bit slower but can do a lot more.

Still using the old opera versions.
It's handsdown the best browser ever made. But now it doesn't get any support some websites don't work anymore. Most are fixable with the tools in that browser, but in the end I'll have to give it up.
I'm hoping something similar will rise someday. It was the best power-user-browser. As backup I use the 'new' opera and vivaldi.
For the future I have some hope for Edge. At least Microsoft has an history of creating technically good browsers. Combined with a changed market they might do something useful. I liked the idea for in page notes.
We'll see.

It still has no extensions, only a possibility for them to exists. And as long as the browser cannot be customised to death with extensions, it is doomed to fail.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If it wasn't for the lack of userscript support, I might still be on IE. But there was too much customization missing for me. It is still my backup browser for anything that Chrome won't display right. (Even though it's a very rare thing)

Opera classic. Despite some issues on some sights, it's still the best single package (no extension or add-on needed) for me and no worries about memory loss or issues causing crashes. Has the most variety of customisation of any web browser and I love it for that.

The current Opera, Chromium, is also decent even if it lacks some features I loved about the classic Opera. Still some easy settings changes and just one extension mostly gets it back to what I want such as Session Buddy. It serves as a good back-up in case any single website doesn't work for the above.

Chrome isn't too bad with The Great Suspender extension just to keep any memory issues from occurring, but it requires way too much work and added downloads to get it anywhere near where I want it to be or to act like.
