Some interesting news out of GDC 2019. Epic is now partnered with HB you can read about it in a brief article here

I'm guessing we will be seeing games for the Epic Store in HB bundles as well as the monthly soon.

They are killing it with the free games and store exclusives.. Wonder for how long will it go like this..

The only reason I have the Epic Launcher installed is because I play Fortnite: Save the World. If I didn't play that, I would never install it. I don't see this bringing about "healthy competition", all I see it bringing is more exclusivity.

Also, Tim Sweeney recently Tweeted this.

We’re working on a review system for the Epic Games store based on the existing one in the Unreal Engine marketplace. It will be opt-in by developers. We think this is best because review bombing and other gaming-the-system is a real problem.

They gave away Subnautica, that got me to install the client. Steam needs competition, badly. I'll support them. I'm sure I have the head space for 2 launchers instead of 1.

they can give anything for free but no reviews, no game forums to ask helps etc. This gamestore is garbage right now compared to all the things steam offers. Yeah, they take only 12% from developers but that not visible on prices, still looks same as steam, so not good for customers, same prices, less services. For me this looks like a plan for get money with minimal effort, so for even less effort what steam/valve doing.

+review system coming but it will be optional for developers only? so they can "hide" reviews if it becomes bad and game full bugged so buyers cant be warned by other buyers?

while the current game (Edith Finch one) is on my wishlist i wont take it on this site as this store looks very bad for me in its current shape.

I'm still giving priority to GoG, but when big titles wich the companies doesn't accept release over there releases on Epic too them they will be my choice. Steam needs to shrink.

UPDATE

Maneater will be releasing in Q1 of 2019.

Ubisoft has just removed The Division 2 store page from Steam and announced that they have entered into a partnership with Epic Games. It's currently available for pre-purchase on both the Epic Games Store as well as Uplay and will be releasing on March 15th. The Division 2 will now only be sold on The Epic Games Store and Ubisofts own client, Uplay. Ubisoft has stated that their partnership doesn't just stop with The Division 2 as they will be releasing more titles that will be coming to the Epic Games Store this year.

They just added regional pricing for 30 regions (130 countries) It's much cheaper here in Brazil than current US prices. Hades is now $10. The Division 2 - $40...
They also changed refunds to unlimited refunds within 14 days of purchase and under 2 hours played.

This. This is what we need, actual regional pricing. It's the only thing that can compete with Steam.

I honestly love that there are now not one, but two competitors aiming to dethrone Steam - both the Epic Games Store and Discord Store have a good chance to make a dent in the market. I am rooting for them solely for the sake of market health and forcing Valve to be on their toes, especially after recent missteps.

I don't mind timed exclusives; 12 months goes quickly by after all.

Both for permanent and timed exclusives, well... Just go to the Epic store and buy them, then - if you really want to play a game that shouldn't be a problem and you're supporting a healthy market.

So you're happy that Epic is turning the PC into 'console wars', where we'll have to have a PC full of bloatware just to play all our favourite games?

No I prefer us to only have Steam's dictatorship and to have them ration us games... <<< Extreme opinion for no reason.

What's with the extremity of your opinion? I obviously outlined why I support the situation - doesn't mean it doesn't have downsides or that I am unaware of them.

i am steam fan, but that update of epic about region pricing and unlimited refunds sounds good, but do they offer free key generation for devs? this sites like humble sell keys that you activate on steam and steam doesnt get anything for that but still host the game in their system, i mean how much steam takes of that 12$ monthly bundle?

Yes it's on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. I'm confused as to why you are asking though.

question: do games on epic games launcher, once downloaded, need the launcher to be running and connected online to any epic server? not meaning Fortnite or other multiplayer stuff, interested in single player stuff

Offline games do not require the launcher.

Those complaining about that 70:30 are retarded. It's far way more than half the price, a clear majority. They made and are maintaining and managing and offering a #1 renowed selling platform with dozens of millions of users daily and some people act like it's owed to them and publishers should have 100% just because and 70% is somewhat garbage. Those platform-exclusives are also garbage if they're permanent. Publishers know that most people are on Steam and pissed off to have to keep track of different platforms for their games.

It's especially dumb given that devs can generate steam keys and sell them through humble, itch.io, their own site etc. - where the commission is anywhere between 0-10%. I wonder how they would like if Valve lowered the commission to 15% (or even less) in exchange of blocking sales of the steam version outside steam. Like: "Here, we'll only take 15% but you can only sell the steam version through steam. You can sell drm-free anywhere you like but you won't be able to generate any keys for off-store sales, bundles or otherwise." I'm pretty sure Valve would make more not less with this move. I wonder what the whiners would have to say then.
