Yes it's one of those threads again, but I'll be short, I promise :)
First: What about pirated copies? I'll be honest I didn't just walk in to a store and bought a Windows 8.1 Pro. So as far as I heard they say that non-genuine copies can be upgraded too. What are the facts about this? There won't be any restrictions if I upgrade to win 10, right?

Second: Can I make a clean install? Because I messed up my Win 8 by port forwarding and such, so I'd need to reset the OS.

Third: Is it good for gaming? CS:GO, PAYDAY 2, Killing Floor 1 and such

These are my questions I hope you can answer them :)

They will give you a trial copy. No full copy for you.

What are the restrictions on this trial copy? I can use it for 1 month or can't use certain features? That's what I want to figure out

I have no idea, actually.

I assume they'll randomly do those annoying popups like they did if the pirate-detector found you back in 7/8.

That is not true!

"Yes. Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need a product key for re-activations on the same hardware. If you make a meaningful change to your hardware, you may need to contact customer support to help with activation. You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgraded."

DO know that in 1 month, your licence of windows 7/8 wont work for 7 or 8 anymore and will only work for 10.

So basically by updating to Windows 10 it invalidates your license for the previous OS and you can't go back if you wanted to? If so, that is fucking stupid and Microsoft can suck it.

Why would u go back to windows 7/8 if u got 10? they wont give u double licences, u should be happy they actually give 10 for free.
And you have 1 month to change ur mind if u want to go back.

1 month is not that long when you are talking about the 'ins and outs' of an entirely new Operating System. Some people have busy lives you know. Why would you go back? Maybe later you decide that you just don't like it, or Microsoft does something down the line that you don't approve of (by which time it is already too late to go back). There could be many different reasons. Invalidating an old license where you paid money for that Operating System is simply retarded, free upgrade or not. And it's not double licenses, it is the same license key merely extended to Windows 10.

The activation state carries over: pirated versions of Windows 8.1 would just become pirated versions of Windows 10 after the update, as M$ stated (but if your pirated version was somehow activated, you'll get a pirate-activated Windows10). You can update with their tool and see what happens, or make a clean install (you'll need a valid key for the clean install).

It's activated with KMSpico. No popups and everything works fine.

Then you'll most likely get an 'activated' copy of Win10, as genuine as the one you have now and everything would work fine, as Microsoft stated itself.

if you care about your personal information do not use win 10. They have key logger and collect everything about you, while you are using it. The only way to disable the collection of data is to buy win 10.

If your pirate copy appears as genuine to MS then you'll have a "genuine" copy of 10 after the upgrade.

Once you upgrade you can then do a clean install. You have to upgrade first so MS can bind the copy of 10 to your hardware hash on their servers. There's no key, everyone who upgrades gets a generic install key which is why it gets tied to your hardware. When you upgrade you have to upgrade to Home if using Home or Pro if using Pro or higher. If you try to upgrade Home to Pro or vice-versa it will ask you for a key.

So far it seems fine for gaming. What I've tried so far runs as well or better than 7.

Don't know about pirated copies or clean installs but the games work fine. There has been tests that show you can get 1 or 2 frames more than Windows 8.1.
